  • A 10-year-old fan was surprised with a gift box from the Kansas City Chiefs after the headband Patrick Mahomes handed him at the game against the Giants was swiped away
  • The fan, Joey Masters, was surprised with several pieces of merchandise that he showed off in an unboxing video
  • Masters ended up with far more than the headband in the end

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking out for their fans.

After 10-year-old Joey Masters missed out on a headband from Patrick Mahomes that was intended for him after the Chiefs-Giants game on Sept. 21 — until a woman swiped it away — the Chiefs made good on the incident.

Masters was gifted a bundle of team merch from the Chiefs, which he excitedly unboxes in a video shared on Instagram and TikTok. In it, the boy goes through a large red box that has the Kansas City-based football team’s logo printed on each side. He then reaches his hand inside the red and yellow confetti, finding goodies that leave him in shock.

The first item Masters pulls out is a Mahomes No. 15 Kansas City Chiefs jersey, which was signed by the quarterback himself. He smiled wide and held up the merch while onlookers can be heard marveling at the gift off-camera.

The young fan then pulled out a black Chiefs string bag filled with more surprises.

Among them included a red Kansas City Chiefs baseball hat, a reusable water bottle, a “Chiefs Kingdom” pennant, a red foam finger and a huge banner with the team’s slogan, “How ’bout those Chiefs.”

The last item Masters took out of the box was a white headband, complete with a signature from Mahomes along with a little note — a significant gift on the heels of the incident that left the fan headband-less.

About one week after the swiper in question — who had been dubbed “Kansas City Karen” — pried the memento away from Masters, he opened up about the incident.

“Patrick Mahomes walked over to me, locked eyes with me, tries to give me his headband,” the 10-year-old fan told Kansas City CBS affiliate KCTV on Sept. 29.

“And the woman just swoops in and snatches it from me,” added Masters, who was celebrating his birthday that same day.

The woman in question, Nina Miller, bragged about getting the headband in a lengthy video on TikTok explaining herself.

Meanwhile, the interaction did not sit well with Masters’ mother.

“It was such a great day,” Mindy Masters told KCTV. “The players were amazing with us, the fans were, and just to have one person swoop in and take that from him is heartbreaking for a mother to watch.”

In a second TikTok days later, Miller dialed down her excitement about retrieving the accessory.

“I just want to talk to you guys for one minute from my heart,” she said in the clip. “At the game, with all the noise and all the excitement, I honestly thought that Pat Mahomes was giving me the headband. I reached for it without thinking.”

Miller added that she “felt horrible” about the outcome.

It is unclear if the two parties have communicated, but Mindy requested that fans leave Miller alone.

“I don’t want her to get hate mail, don’t want her to get death threats,” the young boy’s mom said, adding, “Just give the child his headband back.”
