An 11-year-old Ohio boy died after a pickup truck crashed into his home.

Fifth grader Emmet Sauers, who was inside the home, was killed in the crash, which occurred in Wayne County on Friday, Sept. 4, around 11:50 p.m., according to area news outlet News 5 Cleveland.

An initial investigation found that a white 2007 Ford F-250 was traveling on State Route 302 when it left the roadway and plowed into a home, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a news release obtained by the outlet.

The driver, identified by Fox 8 as 18-year-old Karas M. Wedge, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Wooster Community Hospital.

The crash is still under investigation.

Sauers was a student at Triway Local Schools.

Superintendent Nate Schindewolf said in a statement to News 5 Cleveland, “Our deepest sympathies go out to Emmet’s family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved him. Emmet was a wonderful young man who made a positive impact on many in the school district. Emmet will be deeply missed.”

Loved one Cynthia Vaughn remembered Sauers in a Facebook tribute.
