A toddler died from her injuries after sitting on her sibling's lap during a car crash.
The little girl was two years old when she and her siblings, ages 16, 14, and 11, were in the car with their mother in Kansas at the time of the crash.
The accident occurred on March 15 on I70 at the 336.1 milepost eastbound, near the Paxico Rest Area in Wabaunsee County, Kan., per KHP. The two-year-old girl was reportedly sitting on her sibling's lap when her mother's 2007 Ford F 150 abruptly left the eastbound roadway and veered to the right, crossing the eastbound lanes and crashing into the limestone embankment in the median, according to records from Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) reviewed by PEOPLE.
The car was carrying the toddler and her siblings, ages 16, 14, and 11. The driver and the toddler's siblings all sustained "suspected minor injuries," while the two-year-old died from her injuries three days after the accident at Children's Mercy Hospital, per KHP.
The cause of the crash is "unknown" at this time, per the report from KHP. PEOPLE has reached out to KHP for further information surrounding the crash.

Kansas law indicates that "All children under four are required to ride in a car seat," per KHP. Children four through seven are required to ride in a booster seat.
