Eric Dane, 52, has been in the headlines lately because of his brave decision to share his diagnosis of ALS.
Whether you’re a longtime fan of the actor or a more recent admirer, it’s worth checking out some of his best projects from over the years.
Watch With Us has selected three of Dane’s most notable works, where he has starred alongside other great performers like Ellen Pompeo, Zendaya and Owen Wilson. Check out our selections below.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ (2005–Present)
Dane’s performance as Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on this long-running medical drama is what made him a household name. Appearing in the series between 2006 and 2021, Dane imbued the rascally Sloan with surprising nuance and depth — particularly in his relationships with characters like Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh), Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and his frenemy Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).
Watch Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix or Hulu.

Not every Grey’s Anatomy exit is created equally. Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers and more stars have left Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital — for various reasons. Created by Shonda Rhimes and starring Ellen Pompeo, Grey’s Anatomy debuted on ABC in 2005. Pompeo (Meredith Grey) left the show as a series regular following season 19 […]
‘Euphoria’ (2019–Present)
In this high school HBO drama starring Zendaya, Dane plays Cal Jacobs, the closeted father of abusive high school student Nate (Jacob Elordi). Cal’s conflicted attempts to wrestle with his own sexuality are portrayed movingly by Dane.
His behavior is often monstrous — but his pain is palpable throughout the performance. Euphoria has struggled through production difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the death of actor Angus Cloud, and the 2023 Hollywood strikes — but the first seasons are deeply compelling and a great showcase for Dane as an actor.
Watch Euphoria on HBO Max.
‘Marley & Me’ (2008)
A lighthearted entry into Dane’s canon, Marley & Me is the story of John and Jenny (Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston), a young couple who become owners of the “world’s worst dog.” Dane plays Sebastian, John’s best friend and coworker, who serves as a constant reminder to John of the comparative ease of life without a family.
Dane is effortlessly funny and cool in this supporting role — and the movie is so relentlessly entertaining it’s always worth a mention.
