Three people were arrested after 29 dogs were found deceased in plastic bags in the backyard of a Lee County, Ala., home. Another 24 dogs were found emaciated inside, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Curtis Dewayne Haralson, Patricia Ann Sims, and Tiffany Ann Sims were arrested and booked into Lee County Jail on Monday, Jan. 12, according to police.
Haralson, 63, Patricia, 64, and Tiffany, 27, were all living in the home located on the 8100 block of Lee Road 146 in the Beauregard community, where authorities were called by a neighbor at around 10:45 a.m. local time on Monday to alert them to the condition of the dogs, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.
Lee County Animal Control took the surviving dogs into custody, according to AL.com. No charges have been filed against any of the three people involved, and the investigation remains ongoing. However, the sheriff’s office said in a statement that the investigation “will more than likely result in felony charges for all three individuals.”
The dogs’ ages ranged from puppies to grown dogs.
