A 4-year-old girl has died after an adult fell on top of her in a tragic sledding accident in Quebec, Canada.
On Monday, March 2, police officials announced that the child had died following the incident, which took place on Feb. 22 on a cross-country ski trail north of Gatineau, according to CBC [Canadian Broadcasting Corporation] Lite.
The little girl, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, was sledding at Nakkertok in Val-des-Monts and was being pulled by an adult on skis when the tragedy occurred, per CBC Lite.
MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police said the pair were descending on a hill when the girl was injured, the outlet reported.
Sgt. Martin Fournel stated that the girl was in cardiac arrest when police attended to her, according to The Canadian Press.

Fire and ambulance officials performed CPR upon arrival, CBC Lite reported.
The young girl was taken to the nearby Wakefield hospital, before then being transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa, where her death was confirmed, The Canadian Press stated, citing Fournel. He was unable to say which day she died from her injuries.
The incident is being investigated by Ontario’s coroner, CBC Lite reported, citing local police.
“All indications suggest it was an accident,” police told CTV News Ottawa.
PEOPLE has reached out to MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police, Quebec Provincial Police and the The Office of the Chief Coroner (OCC) for Ontario for additional information, but didn’t immediately receive responses.

The news comes around two weeks after a 13-year-old girl died at Centre Vorlage near Wakefield, Quebec, when her clothes got caught in a ski lift as she was about to dismount at the top of a hill, according to CBC Lite. She'd been on a class trip at the time when the accident occurred on Feb. 11, per the outlet.
The girl’s family said they were “devastated” by her death in a statement released by the CHEO, per the outlet.
"We would like to thank our community for their support and the outpouring of love we have received over the last few days. We would like to extend our love to all of those affected by this terrible tragedy," they shared.
"We are also grateful for everyone who took heroic action to help save our precious child,” the family added, according to the publication.
