3 Underrated Peacock Movies to Watch This Weekend (June 20-22)

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, Peacock put together a killer lineup of films to convince you to stay home and watch a few movies.

As it happens, this weekend is the 50th anniversary of Jaws, the film that paved the way for modern blockbusters as we know them.

That made it an easy pick for a slot among Watch With Us‘ picks for the three underrated Peacock movies to watch this weekend.

Our other selections this week include a hilarious horror comedy and a romantic dramedy with some very familiar faces.

‘Jaws’ (1975)

There have been countless shark movies since Jaws hit theaters on June 20, 1975, including three sequels to this film and six Sharknados! But the original is still the best, and this is the movie that made Steven Spielberg a superstar among directors. Author Peter Benchley cowrote the adaptation of his novel and even appears briefly in a cameo role.

Roy Scheider leads the cast as Martin Brody, the police chief of Amity Island. When a very large great white shark begins to terrorize the town, Mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) refuses Brody’s pleas to close the beaches. The shark itself is rarely seen, and John Williams‘ iconic theme for Jaws is used to hint at its presence. No other shark attack movie has managed to recreate the simple tension that this film had with those unforgettable music notes.

‘The Blackening’ (2023)

The Blackening isn’t a traditional horror comedy and instead leans on the genre’s tropes to brutally satirize them. The movie follows a group of friends, including Allison (Grace Byers), Shanika (X Mayo), Nnamdi (Sinqua Walls), King (Melvin Gregg) and Clifton (Jermaine Fowler), as they are brought together for a fun getaway at a cabin in the woods.

‘Up in the Air’ (2009)

Up in the Air isn’t a conventional romantic comedy/drama, nor is Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) a conventional guy. He gets a lot of repeat business because Ryan has enough empathy that he can console the people he lays off.

Ryan’s new colleague, Natalie Keener (Anna Kendrick), has ambitious plans to do away with their company’s vast travel expenses by firing people remotely. While Ryan tries to teach Natalie the people skills she needs, he has a casual romance with Alex Goran (Vera Farmiga), a businesswoman who travels almost as much as he does.
