Season 7 of Love Island USA came to an end on Sunday, July 13 — and so did one relationship.

In the explosive two-hour episode, Huda Mustafa and Chris Seeley became the first couple in franchise history to break up in the finale. Tensions came to a head during their last date as Huda, 24, expressed concerns about their compatibility.

“It’s going well,” she began after he shared that he saw “potential” for their future together. “There’s chemistry, but then there’s also things that we can work on, and I think that we need to address those things so that we don’t have animosity towards one another.”

“So, I wanted to ask you, I know there are things that were bothering you that you didn’t want to tell me, and I would love if you would just tell me,” she continued.

Chris pointed out their communication and Huda’s hesitation to be affectionate in front of the other Islanders as his main issues.

“There was no respect in my end, as far as like, listening to what I was trying to say,” he said, pausing when Huda started to interrupt.

Chris, 27, then reflected on the night prior, when he wanted to go to sleep while she insisted they cuddle in bed.

“I don’t play with my sleep, and for you to not really understand where I was coming from with that, and still try to keep pushing and then catch an attitude about it after kind of hit me a little bit,” he admitted. “You telling me, ‘Oh, well, if you don’t talk to me right now, then I’m not going to talk to you all day tomorrow. You have three seconds.’ And then you counting down, ‘three, two, one.’”

While Huda said she knew Chris was awake and ignoring her, he once again asked her to let him finish his thought.

“You doing that makes me feel like a little kid,” he added. “And I’m not. I’m a grown a– man.”

Huda explained that she felt “a sense of rejection,” but Chris claimed her reaction pushed him away even more.

When she rolled her eyes and let out a sigh, Chris grew more frustrated.

“This is why I pick my battles, because of reactions like this,” he said. “There’s that same repeating issue. I don’t appreciate that.”

Huda then confessed: “Moving forward in the outside world, there’s no more time in here to figure this out. We’re not exclusive, we’re still getting to know each other and a lot of the things that we do need are the physical aspects. I’m not sure how we would work on that with long distance.”

“I like you, and I want to continue to explore you and get to know you,” she continued. “But at the same time, I’m scared that I’m gonna do that and I’m gonna be disappointed.”

Chris insisted that he was willing to put in the work, but accused Huda of not being “confident in our connection.”

“It seems like you’re scared to tell me where your head is at,” he said. “I know where you’re leaning towards, and if that’s what it is, just tell me.”

A musician appeared to serenade the pair as Huda contemplated what their next steps should be.

When the performance was over, Huda had come to a decision: “I think we should just be friends.”

Chris, seemingly unbothered, replied, “Okay, cool. No hard feelings. S—, I already knew. I could tell. So I have just been waiting for you to say it.”

She proposed that they still “hang out” platonically “and not feel weird,” but Chris wasn’t totally in agreement.

“Right off the bat, I’m gonna be honest with you, no,” he confessed. “But will I have any hatred toward you? No. But I need to not like you anymore, so that means I need to separate myself a little bit, I’m going to.”

As they stared silently into each other’s eyes, Chris stood up and declared: “I can’t take this.”

After walking off, he returned to take Huda, who was still at the dinner table sobbing, back to the villa. “Why are you crying?” he asked.

“Because it’s hard,” she said. When she asked if he could carry her through the water surrounding the candle-lit table, he refused.

When they reunited with the other islanders, Huda broke the news and said she was leaving “with a clear mind.” Chris, on the other hand, said he was “confused,” but did not “give a f— anymore.”

They ultimately came in third place at the end of the episode, behind runners-up Nic Vansteenberghe and Olandria Carthen and winners Amaya Espinal and Bryan Arenales. Iris Kendall and Pepe Garcia-Gonzalez finished in fourth place.
