A seemingly innocent compliment was not music to one girlfriend’s ears.
Her boyfriend explained on Reddit’s “Am I the A——” forum that she “got angry” with him after he said another woman had a “really angelic voice.”
The man recalled telling her about a memory that popped into his head.
“A few years ago, on a winter night near Christmas, I was just lying in bed and was really drowsy, almost asleep, when I heard a woman’s voice singing Christmas carols outside,” he remembered. “Her voice was very, very beautiful … since then I’ve been a bit curious [to know] who was the woman with the really angelic voice and why was she randomly singing?”
Then, his girlfriend’s reaction to that memory surprised him.
“My girlfriend got angry and said I’m an a—— for talking this way about another woman when I have a girlfriend,” he wrote. “I didn’t say anything about the woman herself, just that her voice was angelic.”

Wondering if he’s in the wrong, the man asked Redditors, “Am I the a—— for saying a woman other than my girlfriend had an angelic voice?”
Fellow Reddit users offered their opinions on the couple’s interaction.
“You have an insecure partner,” one reader replied, while another commented, “Complimenting a person for a non-sexual skill shouldn’t be a problem, even if the person is of the opposite sex.”
A third Reddit user responded, “This is weird af if you haven’t been cheating on her. If you have, then it’s about that.”
