Malcolm McDowell is enjoying being a grandfather.
While speaking with PEOPLE for new movie Et Tu, the famed actor, 82, opened up about his “absolutely gorgeous” baby granddaughter, Tove — whom is the daughter of son Charlie McDowell and daughter-in-law Lily Collins — and his life as a grandfather.
“She’s absolutely gorgeous,” McDowell tells PEOPLE, referring to his nearly 7-month-old granddaughter. “Absolutely beautiful.”
In addition to Tove, McDowell is a grandfather to three other girls. The A Clockwork Orange actor shares with PEOPLE how much he “loves” being around them and witnessing their dynamic.
“I love being around them and just watching the antics that go on and the dynamic and the difference between them all. It’s staggering,” says the proud grandfather. “They’re so different in personality and everything. It’s just beautiful to watch.”
Although McDowell is watching the little girls from afar in his grandfather role, he tells PEOPLE that it’s “really nice” to see them when they are around.
“Of course, being a grandfather, you’re kind of watching it from afar,” he admitted, adding, “They come over and swim or something and I see them occasionally, but we live in the same town, so it’s really nice to bump into them on the street and it’s great.”

McDowell became a grandfather of four back in January. Collins, 36, and her film director husband, 42, shared the news on social media that they’d welcomed their first baby together. “Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell,” Collins wrote in a joint Instagram announcement shared with her husband.
The new mom also shared a photo of the baby girl lying bundled in a bassinet. A monogrammed blanket with her name written in gold was draped over the cradle. “Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again,” the caption continued.
