Divulging in childlike wonder is my secret to a joyful life, and building Lego sets has become my favorite way to achieve this. One of the most prized sets in my collection is the Lego Botanicals Succulents.
The 771-piece build includes nine colorful plants, which can be arranged separately or combined into one unit by attaching their bases. For the past couple of years, this gift from my sister has been on my living room’s windowsill as an eye-catching centerpiece. Since I just moved into a new apartment, I’m elated to be able to spotlight them again.
For me, this Lego set is a win-win. I relished the opportunity to dive into an artistic pursuit and ended up with whimsical home decor. Lego Botanicals Succulents
When all nine little succulents are attached, this build measures a little over 5 inches tall, 6.5 inches wide, and 6.5 inches deep. This size is ideal for displaying on bookshelves, coffee tables, desks, and more. Friends of mine have opted to showcase the succulents separately, dispersed between shelves or spread across different parts of the home.
In terms of difficulty, I would say the set is on the easier side of Lego’s spectrum. All nine of the black bases are identical, which means each plant’s build starts off the same. That being said, once you get to the plant part of the build, it’s fascinating to construct the unique textures and shapes.
One of the most interesting parts of this build is that all nine of the succulents are inspired by actual plants including Aloe vera, lavender echeveria, and moon cactus. Each plant’s instruction booklet ends with an informational page dedicated to its scientific rundown, typical environment, and more. Knowing the Lego set is based on real plants makes it even more captivating as home decor. It’s a fun fact you can share with guests when they (ultimately) inquire after them.
Lego plants do collect a good amount of dust over time. My trick with this set is to detach the plant from the base, then gently run over the base, leaves, and petals with a dusting cloth.
