- A Reddit user explained that she cooked for her friend’s dinner party and thought the friend would pay for the ingredients

A woman doesn’t feel like a million bucks after she was called “tacky” for asking her friend to pay her back for the dinner she made.
She explained on Reddit’s “Am I the A——?” forum that she cooked for her friend’s dinner party and asked her friend to cover the cost of ingredients.
“I love cooking and often host dinners for friends,” the woman wrote. “Recently, my friend had me cook for a party she was hosting at her house because she loves my food and wanted to impress her guests.”
The 29-year-old agreed with the caveat that the 31-year-old friend would fit the bill for all of the ingredients used for the food.
“She seemed fine with it,” the woman recalled.
“After the party, I gave her the receipt — around $150 — and that’s just ingredients. I didn’t take any money for myself,” she continued. “She said she didn’t expect it to cost that much and that I should cover it as a gift because we’re friends and I enjoy cooking.”
The woman stood her ground and said no to gifting the ingredients.
“Now she’s calling me tacky for ‘nickel-and-diming’ her over dinner,” she wrote, before asking the forum, “Am I the a—— for asking my friend to pay me back for food I cooked for her dinner party?”

The majority of Reddit users who commented sided with the woman.
“Your ‘friend’ essentially hired a caterer and then failed to make payment,” one reader replied. “WTF. Who willingly and spontaneously gifts someone $150 worth of food AND then provides the free labor to cook it AFTER having clearly expressed that the receipt for the food WILL be submitted for repayment?? Nobody, that’s who.”
“Your friend is ghastly, greedy, and hella gauche,” they concluded.
