- It was an eventful night in the television world as the biggest stars gathered to celebrate the 2025 Emmy Awards
- While lots unfolded in front of cameras, plenty of action also happened behind the scenes
- Here’s everything that you didn’t see during the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 14
It was a starry affair at television’s biggest night!
The Studio, Severance and Adolescence won big at the 2025 Emmy Awards, history was made as 15-year-old Owen Cooper became the youngest actor ever to win in his category, and there were some major cast reunions, including Gilmore Girls‘ Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.
The night was also one of big reveals, as news broke that Reba McEntire is engaged to her boyfriend of five years, Rex Linn. A source told PEOPLE that the proposal happened “a few months ago and they are very happy.”
Here’s everything that didn’t make the screen during the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 14.
On the red carpet, nominee Adam Brody spoke to PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly about Nobody Wants This while his wife, Leighton Meester, revealed she had to sew her bracelet back together to complete her ultra chic look.
Justin Hartley was on the lookout for his This Is Us costar Sterling K. Brown on the carpet, and was asking around if anyone had seen him yet. The Paradise actor was attending the awards show on a scooter, despite tearing his Achilles Heel days before the show.
The show began at 8 p.m. ET sharp, and as the stars packed inside the Peacock Theater, there were plenty of fun moments that the camera didn’t catch.
Bowen Yang was seated in the front row and pulled out a Tide Pen to try to fix a stain on his white shirt, while he chatted with Cate Blanchett.
Throughout the night, Blanchett, 56, was immersed in conversation with her seatmate, Jake Gyllenhaal. At one point, Gyllenhaal, 44, and his girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu went over to nominee James Marsden to say hello to him and his girlfriend, Frédérique Brons.
In the row behind Blanchett and Gyllenhaal was Martin Short — sitting with his Only Murders in the Building costars Steve Martin and Selena Gomez — who caught up with Jimmy Kimmel during a commercial break.
Gomez’s fiancé, Benny Blanco, was by her side for the night, too, and it was clear that Gomez’s costars have a close relationship with the music producer, as they were all chatting throughout the night, and Martin, 80, escorted the couple out a side door during a commercial break later in the night.
At one point, Gomez spotted Short texting someone on his phone. When she realized who it was, she whispered to Blanco, “Marty’s texting Meryl.”
Martin was also spotted escorting Gomez and Blanco to a side exit during a commercial break.
Nearby, Emmy winners Noah Wyle and Bryan Cranston posed together for a photo, and nominee Liza Colón-Zayas took a selfie with a fan as she walked back to her seat during a commercial break.
When the theme song to The O.C., “California,” played, Justine Lupe made a scene, screaming along to the lyrics in her costar — and O.C. alum — Brody’s direction.
It was a big night overall for costars, as Somebody Somewhere‘s Bridget Everett and Murray Hill stuck together all night, and White Lotus love interests Tayme Thapthimthong and BLACKPINK’s Lisa, as well as Dom Hetrakul and Natasha Rothwell were seated next to each other.
Aimee Lou Wood was also loved up for the evening, as she was joined by her rumored boyfriend Adam Long. They snuggled up in the audience, and were spotted kissing the night before at a pre-Emmys party.
There were also some fan-favorite reunions from projects past, including Kristen Bell and Jason Segel, who starred in Forgetting Sarah Marshall in 2008, and Tina Fey and Sterling K. Brown, who starred in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot together.
Of course, fans saw Gilmore Girls alums Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel also reunite on the stage at the Emmys to present an award. Fans were in for a treat as they stood on the front porch set of their Stars Hollow home from the show.
Blanchett was also seen chatting John Turturro, who she worked with in 2000 on The Man Who Cried.
Bryan Tyree Henry was an especially enthusiastic audience member when Cristin Milioti won her first-ever Emmy for The Penguin.
When Cris Abrego, chairman of the Television Academy, made an emotional plea in response to Congress defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Gomez was shown on the theater’s screens as she nodded her agreement. The actress got her start on PBS’ Barney & Friends in 2002.
During the In Memoriam segment, the starry audience applauded loudly as Loni Anderson, Michelle Trachtenberg, George Wendt, John Amos and Maggie Smith were honored, and when Ozzy Osbourne, David Lynch and Quincy Jones’ names appeared, the applause was particularly loud.
Later in the show, The Bear’s Liza Colon-Zayas stopped on her way back to her seat during a commercial break to take selfie with a fan.
