Viewers are questioning MrBeast’s safety precautions after he staged a seemingly high-risk stunt for YouTube.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, the social media star uploaded a video titled “Would You Risk Dying For $500,000?” The 25-minute post featured a man navigating a series of “death traps” in order to secure the cash prize.
The fire-based obstacles included “getting shot out of a cannon into fire, [jumping] through death-defying rings of fire [and] surviving massive fiery explosions,” as MrBeast, 27, narrated.
He clarified that the contestant works as a professional stuntman, “but we are gonna push him to the max in this video,” added the content creator. The sequence opened with the man tied to a chair in a room set on fire. He began by unraveling the rope holding him down as flames fanned around him.
Shortly after sharing the video, MrBeast posted a comment to address “any concern about the safety of the stuntman contestant” as he attempted to escape the traps, which he ultimately succeeded in doing.
“I just wanted to mention that we take safety extremely seriously. Every challenge was tested by multiple stuntmen, we have a full rescue team on standby with firefighters, EMTs and divers equipped with an ambulance and fire truck,” MrBeast’s disclaiming comment.
He claimed that the fires seen in every challenge were controlled by a “pyro team” and “multiple fire suppression methods,” ensuring that they “could essentially turn off the fire if there was ever an issue.”
“But our stunt coordinator did an amazing job as always, and none of these systems were ever needed. Just wanted to be transparent with you all since I saw some concern!” MrBeast concluded.
Still, social media users were quick to call out the creator for his questionable setup, which many thought to be excessively dangerous.
“I don’t care if the fire is controlled or how many safety crew members he has ready, this is just dangerous and seems psychopathic,” one person wrote on X.
Another X user claiming to have fire safety experience added, “As a firefighter, I can feel the heat just looking at this video. MrBeast, that was the dumbest idea you and your crew ever had.”
He also took to X to further clarify: “This blew up,” he wrote in a post. “If you’re curious obviously we had ventilation for the smoke and a kill switch to cut off the fires. We had professionals test this extensively and the guy in the video as stated is a professional stunt man. I take safety more serious than you could ever imagine.”
