The search for a 47-year-old California woman who went missing after going on a hike last week has been temporarily suspended, officials said.

In a Monday, Oct. 6 update, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said it would pause its efforts in the search for Sunshine Borjas. She was first reported missing in the evening on Oct. 1, hours after she’d left her home around 1:30 p.m. local time and set out on a solo hike.

In a separate statement, the Santa Rosa Police Department confirmed that authorities located Borjas’ vehicle in the parking lot of Bodega Head promontory in the early morning on Oct. 2.

Last week, the search for Borjas was temporarily hindered by “heavy fog,” which limited drone and helicopter activity, SRPD Sergeant Patricia Seffens said, according to SFGate.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said its search and rescue team spent hours over the weekend trying to locate Borjas in the area of Bodega Head with assistance from canines, U.S. Coast Guard planes and boats, drones and ground searchers, among other resources.

“Search efforts were suspended Sunday as teams await new leads on where to continue looking. The investigation has been turned back over to the Santa Rosa Police Department,” the sheriff’s office said.

“A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who provided mutual aid and supported the search this weekend. Your teamwork and dedication mean so much,” the sheriff’s office continued.

When reached for comment, representatives from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Rosa Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that the investigation is ongoing.
