A bride has been “crying nonstop” about a “disastrous” mishap at her wedding.
Even though it’s been three months since she said “I do,” the bride shared in a post on Reddit’s “Wedding Shaming” forum that she still feels “terrible” about letting her loved ones down at her wedding reception.
The bride chose a buffet-style dinner for her nuptials, and assumed there would be plenty of food to go around. It’s unclear how the restaurant venue’s team was so far off with the headcount, but nearly 20% of guests were left hungry.
“Dinner started and all my guests except for three out of the 14 tables got food,” the bride wrote. “By the time the last three tables went up, all the food was gone.”
To make matters worse, the bride remembered hearing the restaurant staff whispering to each other about her friends and family members’ appetites as guests grabbed food before it ran out. The staff said things like, “Wow, can’t they control their portions?” These judgmental remarks “left a lot of guests hesitant to go for seconds.”
Half an hour later, the food was refilled. However, the bride was “furious” because a portion of her guests were hungry for so long, and another group of guests were offended by the staff’s comments.
Some guests close to the bride even “complain[ed]” about their wedding experience to other guests
“These couple of family members won’t stop talking badly about my wedding during other family functions and behind my back,” the bride said. “Which makes me extremely sad and a bit belittled.”
She added that one female family member is even comparing her wedding to hers now, calling hers “so much better” and using the recent reception “as a disaster example.”
Now, the bride is contemplating if she “should write a massive apology to everyone.”
In the comments section, some Redditors encouraged the bride to not dwell over the unfortunate wedding dinner situation, and to instead change the topic of conversation if it comes up.
“You’re thinking much too much about this. Your wedding happened. It’s over and now it’s time to live your life. I have a feeling what’s upsetting you are these unkind family members saying unkind things,” the top comment reads. “You need a comeback. A way to shut down people when they criticize you. Something like this: ‘Yeah it was unfortunate there was a glitch with the food. We decided to focus on how happy we were to be surrounded by our loved ones celebrating our marriage.’ That will shut them up.”

Other Redditors wondered if there was any truth to the restaurant staff’s comments, and suggested that some guests may have actually been gluttonous.
“Your guests were greedy and inconsiderate, and that’s why you ran out of food,” one person said, adding, “The worst are these same people not finishing their food and throwing out what someone else might have enjoyed.”
