Man Says His Fiancée Leaves Behind ‘Gross’ Food Messes Around Their House, Including the Bed. She Says to ‘Let Her Relax’

  • A man is frustrated with his fiancée over her “habit of leaving glasses and food in our bedroom and bathroom”
  • “She tells me to just leave her alone and let her relax,” he wrote in an Aug. 31 Reddit post
  • Reddit users weighed in on the situation and came to a near-unanimous conclusion

For one engaged couple, things are getting a little messy.

A frustrated fiancé, 28, aired his grievances in an Aug. 31 Reddit post after his fiancée, 26, refused to change her ways and give up her “habit of leaving glasses and food in our bedroom and bathroom.” In his words, she “has a habit of carrying off food and drinks” to the rooms, rather than enjoying them in the kitchen or living room.

“She doesn’t really eat a whole meal in these parts of the house, but rather snacks,” he explained in the post, which he shared to the “Am I the A——” forum. Rather, he said, she’ll opt for chips, candy, cereal or “a small plate of food,” which she’ll then eat “while relaxing in the tub or bed.”

And while she’s not the only one — the fiancé admitted to “occasionally” eating outside of the designated areas — it is “pretty rare,” he admitted. Plus, when he does it, he always picks up after himself, he added.

But the snacking isn’t the sole issue, he explained: It’s the mess she leaves behind.

A lot of the time, the fiancé said, it will “take her days” to “start removing” the glasses and bowls she uses for snacking — as well as leftover food — from the spot she left them in. These spots, he said, include “along” the tub and sinks, as well as the headboard of their shared bed.

At the time of writing, he said in the post, there were six “glasses in various parts of the bathroom,” a half-eaten candy bar on the back of the toilet, “some empty chip bags” and some glasses on their headboard.

“There have been some mishaps as well,” the fiancé noted.

After his fiancée “broke a glass in the bathroom,” for example, “some bisque went flying all over our bedroom area rug because she had a bowl in the bed.” Another time, she “spilled some coke on the sheets.”

“I told her the other day to stop doing this,” he wrote, “because there’s a lot of breakables and it’s just gross.” But she shut his complaints down, according to the post.

“I told her to start only eating in the living room and kitchen, but she does not want to,” he wrote. “She tells me to just leave her alone and let her relax, but I feel that she needs to be confined to eating and drinking in just the living room and kitchen.”

In response, some users were stuck on various details of the fiancée’s habits — “I can’t get past the half-eaten candy bar on the toilet tank,” one wrote — but there was a near-unanimous consensus: The fiancée should not necessarily have to stop snacking, but she should clean up after herself.

“However, her eating in other rooms is not the problem,” one user wrote in the top-voted reply. “Focus on the actual issue, the fact that she is leaving a mess. You sound controlling otherwise.”

Added the user: “Her eating a candy bar outside of the dining area shouldn’t be an issue. The issue is that she leaves it for you to clean up.”

“It’d be completely fine,” another echoed, “if she cleaned up after herself.”
