Lucy Barnes’ father gave her his blessing in the most unexpected way.
The bride-to-be shared a video of the “very emotional” moment her dad tried on a suit for her wedding, but she later realized that there was more to the story — the suit was the same one he wore to his own nuptials over 25 years ago.
“My dad coming down in his wedding suit to ask if I thought it was still nice to wear at my wedding I’m sobbing,” Barnes, 23, wrote on TikTok Sept. 10 alongside a clip of her father in a classic black suit and gold tie. “He just frowns like that cause he thinks I’m taking pictures.”
After the heartwarming moment started garnering attention on social media, Barnes told Newsweek that her father, who doesn’t often show much emotion, will be wearing the suit when he walks her down the aisle and delivers his speech.
“It really showed how he not only approves of but is also already excited about my wedding,” she told the outlet. “It was a real ‘actions over words’ moment as my dad is not a man of big passionate speeches.”
“It was a touching moment of vulnerability from a dad who has always been very stoic, even in the most turbulent of times,” the soon-to-be bride added.
Although he will soon be giving his daughter away to her fiancé Cory, Barnes’ father — who she describes as a mix of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. House — will always remain a very special man in her life.
“My dad is unlike anyone I’ve ever met, it’s honestly hard to describe,” she admitted. “He is the most intelligent person I know and not just because he’s my dad. His knowledge seems to cover every topic from quantum physics to WWE wrestling.”
Still, Barnes is looking forward to stepping into a new chapter with the love of her life — especially now that she has such enthusiastic support from her loved ones.
“I am so excited to marry Cory,” she said. “He is the most wonderful man I’ve ever met and is the only man to win over my dad, too.”
