A massive fire erupted at the home of Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra just after the team arrived back from a road game against the Denver Nuggets early Thursday morning.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), over 20 units responded at 4:36 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6 to reports of a structure fire at the single-family residence near the 4800 block of Davis Road, southwest of downtown Miami.
Fire crews arrived to find two structures on the property fully in flame, MDFR said in a news release obtained by PEOPLE.
As the fire engulfed the property, additional support was needed and the call was upgraded to a second-alarm fire. Because of a partial collapse, “firefighters switched to a defensive attack to extinguish the fire,” authorities said.
No injuries were reported at the unoccupied residence, MDFR said.
In footage from local station WPLG-TV, Spoelstra, 55, was at the scene, looking distraught as firefighters battled the flames. One of his assistant coaches, Chris Quinn, was also seen outside the home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Hours earlier, the Heat were in Denver for the third game of a road trip and lost to the Nuggets, 122-112.
Spoelstra and his ex-wife Nikki divorced in November 2023. They share three children, Santiago, 6, Dante, 4, and Ruby, 2.
Two months after his divorce, the Heat and Spoelstra agreed to an eight-year contract extension worth more than $120 million.
