Dove Cameron Says She Was ‘Completely Barefaced’ and Wearing a ‘Big T-Shirt’ When Fiancé Damiano David Proposed

Dove Cameron is opening up about her fiancé Damiano David’s proposal to her for the first time.

The singer and actress, 30, announced her engagement to the Måneskin frontman, 27, on Instagram on Jan. 3. In an interview with Vogue published on Monday, Jan. 26, Cameron shared new details about her engagement, including when it happened and just how surprised she was.

Although the engagement photos posted on social media were glamorous, they were snapped by friends during a New Year’s getaway, per Vogue. The proposal itself was a simple, private moment between the couple in October.

“For the actual proposal, I wasn’t wearing any makeup,” the bride-to-be told the magazine. “I was completely barefaced, ’cause I had no idea that it was gonna be that day. It was very sweet in that way because I am typically very made-up, done-up. I have fun experimenting with that stuff. But in this case, I was just in my big T-shirt, slightly damp hair, and no makeup.”

In late October, Cameron and David sparked engagement rumors when they were photographed in Sydney, Australia, with the Descendants star wearing her new sparkler on her ring finger. The couple of two years privately enjoyed their engagement bliss for a few months before publicly sharing the news.

In January, Italian jeweler Allessandro Bernini shared a closer look at the couple’s unique engagement rings on Instagram, and revealed they were “created to celebrate the union of two souls and the timeless bond of love.”

To make the rings even more special, they each feature a “deeply meaningful inscription” on the inside of the band. David’s reads “The best part of being alive,” and Cameron’s says “My favourite part of being alive” to match.

Since announcing their engagement, Cameron and David have remained tight-lipped about wedding planning. However, Cameron did tell Vogue that she intends to prioritize feeling like herself for her bridal glam.

“Honestly, for my actual wedding day, I don’t want to do something too traditional,” she said. “Every time I have my makeup done in a very pretty, kind of like, gold-wash, very slight eyeshadow, and just a little bit of mascara, I don’t feel like myself. Like I feel like I’m performing for this kind of like, a woman looks best with the least amount of makeup, and I feel like I’m doing it for someone else.”

She continued, “I would rather be in literally no makeup, or like a sort of a smudgy eye, like I threw on some eyeliner and I f—ed it up myself, kind of thing.”
