Authorities in Nevada have released bodycam footage from the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old boy who was killed while being carried by his father, who allegedly approached police with a gun.

Kentre Baker was killed in the Tuesday, Feb. 3, shooting outside a Las Vegas, Nev., residence, officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said at a press briefing this week.

Kentre's father, 28-year-old Quentin Baker, who police allege approached officers with a gun while pointing it at the child, was killed in the shooting, LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Bryan Peterson said at the briefing on Thursday. Feb. 5.

The investigation began with a 911 call in which a woman told the dispatcher that Quentin was threatening to kill her and kill their son. (Police did not name the woman, but she was identified by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, News13 and in a GoFundMe as Raneka Pate.)

Pate told responding officers that Quentin allegedly threatened her, saying, "If you don't tell them to call this s— off, and if they try to come up these stairs, I'm blowing the child's brains out, and I'm blowing mine out. You won't have neither one of us."

In newly released bodycam footage, a man police identify as Quentin is seen walking toward officers while carrying his 3-year-old son, Kentre, in his left arm. Police say Quentin was pointing a gun at the child as he approached; when officers ordered him to drop the weapon, he did not deny having a gun and instead said he wanted to see Pate, according to police.

A shooting ensues, and it's not clear whether Quentin started the shooting or the officers.

Police allege Kentre died from close-range gunshot wounds to his head, and that he'd been shot by Quentin.

The child had been shot three times, per Peterson, and two of those shots were allegedly from Kentre's gun. Peterson said it has not been "determined" where the third shot came from.

Pate told the Review-Journal she watched from a patrol car as Quentin and Ketre were shot, and claimed Quentin was not armed when he approached police.

“There was a plethora of bullets,” she said.

Quentin died at the scene. Kentre died after being taken to a hospital.

“They are trying to play damage control, but they will pay for killing my son,” Pate claimed to the Review-Journal of LVMPD.

Quentin would've been charged with murder, several domestic violence-related offenses and child abuse had he lived, Peterson said.

The officers involved have been identified by LVMPD as 39-year-old Jonthan Low who has been with the department since 2019, and 26-year-old Daymon O'Donnell, who has been with LVMPD since 2024.  They have not been formally accused of any wrongdoing.

Low fired three rounds and O'Donnell fired two rounds during the incident, Peterson said.
