NEED TO KNOW
- Taylor Swift loves a red lip, that we know.
- Below, we break down all the brands (and shades!) we’ve seen on the star over the years.
- Including Pat McGrath, Smashbox, Mac Cosmetics, and more lip products.
What is Taylor Swift’s favorite color — and why is it red?
Okay, so it might not actually be her favorite, but it’s certainly her top choice for her lips. And all you have to do to confirm this is A) Listen to a few of her top hits like “Style,” “Wildest Dreams,” and “Blank Space” or B) Just take a look at her.
More often than not, she’s wearing the crimson shade in one way or another, whether it’s for award shows, Chiefs games, birthday parties, single covers, or even during her history-making Eras Tour.
In fact, the question often isn’t if she’s going to be wearing red lipstick, (though we do wonder if her wedding day will be an exception!) but rather, which one will she wear? And below, we’ve got the answers just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The End of an Era docuseries was thrilling for many reasons, but things reached a new level of excitement when we got a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the superstar’s beauty routine. It’s true: We sleuthed out everything from her volumizing shampoo to, yes, her red lip liner, which was confirmed to be this one from Smashbox.
The formula has a 12-hour weartime, which is probably why the “Maroon” singer wore it to perform for three hours straight. Plus, it “reduces feathering on older lips” and “keeps the lipstick on your lips, not in your wrinkles,” shared one Amazon reviewer.

Before Swift was officially in her Showgirl era, there was the "Bejeweled" music video. Not familiar with it? All you need to know is there was a giant martini glass, a bedazzled corset, and Pat McGrath’s LiquiLust Legendary Wear Lipstick in the shade Elson 4.
The $34 lipstick has a matte, shine-free finish that’s also said to be unbudgeable for a whopping 12 hours. Additionally, it’s formulated with a “moisture complex infusion,” which won’t leave your pout feeling dry and crusty after removal.

So this isn’t technically a red lipstick (though it looks orangey-red in certain lighting), but it is one that we know she uses, beyond a shadow of a doubt. The singer’s makeup artist Lorrie Turk confirmed it on Instagram back in 2024 and noted that “She’s worn it for years.”
Sadly, the “warm matte cinnamon” shade, as the brand describes it, is sold out right now. However, a lip liner in the very same shade is in stock, so you could always achieve a similar effect by applying this $26 pencil all over.

While Swift is fairly hush hush about her beauty routine, she gave us a hint back during her Tumblr days. “Dragon Girl by Nars,” she wrote in response to a fan’s question about which lippies she uses. Now she didn’t specifically mention what formula she used, but this one comes in the same fiery red shade.
Mac Cosmetics Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo

Once upon a time, Swift was also a fan of another matte formula, only this one was from Mac Cosmetics. The shade (and price) is enough to woo anyone, especially those looking for a true blue-red.

Another recent development in her lineup appears to be this lipstick, which made a short cameo in her docuseries. We reached out to the brand to confirm, and they, too, believe it was this silver tube in the Ruby True hue — not to be confused with Ruby Woo.
If you’re in need of a new red lippie, there’s no one better to turn to than the queen of a bold lip look: Taylor Swift.
