What the 2026 Lunar New Year Holds for the Rabbit Zodiac Sign

Chinese astrology and Feng Shui expert Vicki Iskandar tells PEOPLE what the Year of the Horse means for those born in the year of the Rabbit

Chinese Zodiac Rabbit

After an adventurous 2025, the Rabbit can look forward to a sweet and breezy year ahead!

This year’s Lunar New Year occurred during the new moon solar eclipse in Aquarius on Feb. 17, kicking off the year of the Fire Horse, blazing with momentum and optimism.

Much like traditional Western astrology, the Chinese zodiac has 12 zodiac signs that can determine a person's personality, compatibility, career and fortunes. Still, every year is represented by one of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, each holding unique personality traits.

“While the year of the Horse comes every 12 years, the last time we had the Fire Horse as the ‘pillar’ of the year was in 1966,” Chinese metaphysics consultant Vicki Iskandar tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Contrary to 2025’s Wood Snake — which was a Yin year focused on introspection and inner transformation — 2026 is a fully Yang Fire year, with Yang Fire in both the heavenly stem and the Horse itself.

“Put together these Yang qualities of Fire in the Fire Horse, and we have an extremely intense, energetic, fast-moving and action-oriented year ahead,” Iskandar says.

For those born in the Year of the Rabbit (1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023), the Year of the Horse brings a surge of creativity and romance, with memories from the year prior serving as a muse.

In the meantime, read on for what the Year of the Rabbit has in store for the Rabbit, according to Iskandar’s predictions.

Rabbit's love horoscope 2026

Love is in the air for the Rabbit this year!

“As a fellow Peach Blossom star, the Rabbit will also very much enjoy the Horse’s social, romantic vibes,” Iskandar says.

Your social calendar fills quickly and sparks fly effortlessly. Romance finds you so easily this year that commitment could be difficult to imagine, but don’t overlook those who genuinely tug on your heartstrings.

“Do recognize when you catch someone who is for keeps,” Iskandar emphasizes.

Those already partnered could look forward to a year of joy and affection, while single Rabbits become magnets for romantic chemistry.

Rabbit's biggest challenges in 2026

Your biggest challenge is scattering your energy.

“It will be easy for the Rabbit to scatter their energy with so many opportunities and invites presented to them,” Iskandar says.

She also explains that as a “Yin Wood sign,” you’re prone to people pleasing, often at the expense of your own needs. Burnout becomes a risk if you don’t pace yourself.

“Be impeccable with your words to avoid getting caught up in gossip and rumors in September,” she adds.

Protect your peace and choose rest when needed.

Rabbit's career horoscope in 2026

Prepare for a year of manifestation!

“Writers and artists can turn their inspiration into books and works of art, while those in the business side of things will be able to find innovative solutions to existing issues,” Iskandar says.

Your experiences from 2025 are now your greatest assets. Whether you’re launching something new or polishing an existing project, the Year of the Horse helps you transform those ideas into tangible offerings.

That is, of course, if you stay focused.

“If you haven’t had a chance to take notes on all the memorable experiences the Snake presented to you as your travel star, then find time to sit and write them down at the beginning of the year,” she says.

Important dates for the Rabbit in 2026

March, June and December bring celebrations, creative breakthroughs and romantic highlights. July and October, however, support new collaborations and strategic partnerships.

Remember not to indulge the gossip, especially in September!
