  • Sarah Ferguson reportedly checked into a luxury wellness center as her ties to Jeffrey Epstein escalated with the release of new files tied to the investigation into the convicted sex offender
  • The former Duchess of York checked into Swiss rehabilitation clinic Paracelsus Recovery after Christmas and stayed through January, according to a news report
  • In the wake of the former Prince Andrew’s arrest on Feb. 19, Ferguson’s current whereabouts are unknown

Sarah Ferguson checked into a luxury wellness clinic in Switzerland amid revelations and new scrutiny about her relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to a new report.

As Ferguson, 66, and her ex-husband, the former Prince Andrew, came under renewed scrutiny for their appearances in the Department of Justice (DOJ)'s recently released investigative files on Epstein, Ferguson left the United Kingdom and checked into Paracelsus Recovery, a Swiss rehabilitation clinic, the Daily Mail reported. PEOPLE has not independently confirmed the report.

She left for the exclusive mental health and rehabilitation facility, which is located in Zurich, just after Christmas in December, and she stayed through the end of January, according to the publication.

“She always feels at home at Paracelsus, and knows she’ll get love and attention there, as well as expert health treatment when she’s feeling at her most vulnerable,” a source told the Daily Mail of Ferguson.

Another source  reportedly said that Ferguson — who has previously appeared in promotional videos for the clinic and penned an op-ed about it for The Telegraph — has “strong relationship with Paracelsus, so it was the obvious place for her to get away from everything.”

As of late January, PEOPLE understood that Ferguson planned to spend time overseas as she considered her next moves.

In the wake of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s Feb. 19 arrest, Ferguson’s current whereabouts are unknown.

A representative for the former Duchess of York had no comment when reached by PEOPLE.

Paracelsus Recovery also declined to comment, telling PEOPLE, "As a matter of policy, we never confirm or deny whether any individual is or has been under our care."

The Swiss treatment center, which describes itself as “discreet,” has programs ranging from around $122,000 to $154,000 a week, and it dedicates a minimum of 15 professionals — including doctors, therapists and other specialists — to each of its clients, according to its website.

Clients of the clinic stay in private lakefront penthouse residences and receive amenities, including a personal chef, Paracelsus Recovery's website states.

Ferguson’s reported stay at the luxury center comes after recently released files show that both she and Andrew, 66 — who was stripped of his royal titles amid renewed scrutiny of his ties to Epstein — kept in touch with the disgraced financier long after he had been convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2008.

Both Ferguson and Andrew had previously claimed to have cut off contact with the late financier, who died by apparent suicide in jail in 2019, as he was set to face federal sex trafficking charges.

In a May 2010 email exchange with Epstein, Ferguson said she "desperately" needed money and suggested that he hire her to work as his house assistant.

In one other, Ferguson called Epstein “the brother I have always wished for," and another saw her ask Epstein to “just marry” her.

A representative for Ferguson previously declined PEOPLE's request for comment about the emails. Ferguson and Andrew have always denied wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.
