Kevin Federline has spoken out about ex Britney Spears' recent arrest.
On Friday, March 6, Federline's lawyer shared a statement with TMZ regarding the pop star's arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol (DUI) in Ventura, Calif. two days prior.
“Kevin hopes for the best for Britney and if help is necessary, he hopes that she will neither resist it or those who are attempting to work with her,” his lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan reportedly told the outlet.
He added, "The concern is whether this is just a one off or a one more."
Federline's rep did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. PEOPLE has reached out to his lawyer.
According to a press release issued by the California Highway Patrol on Thursday, March 4, a black BMW 430i "was reported to the CHP’s Ventura Communications Center for driving erratically at a high rate of speed" and pulled over.
Spears, 44, allegedly showed signs of "impairment and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests," according to police. She was arrested on suspicion of "driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol" and booked, per the release.
The CHP said the incident was still under investigation and that chemical test results are pending. Spears was released back home early on the morning of March 4.
A representative for Spears told PEOPLE in a statement that the arrest was "an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable."
"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life," the rep said. "Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."
"Her boys are going to be spending time with her," the statement continued. "Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being."
Federline, 47, and Spears — who were married from 2004 to 2007 — share sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.

Shortly after the arrest, a source told PEOPLE that she was feeling "very emotional and regretful" about the situation.
"She's very emotional and regretful this morning. She's also embarrassed because of how it could affect her sons," the insider shared. "She loves them very much and never wants them to feel like she's letting them down."
Last October, Federline released a memoir titled You Thought You Knew, in which he made various claims about the "Lucky" singer — and her behavior as a mother. At the time, she responded on X, saying she's "had enough" of Federline's "constant gaslighting." She also defended her relationship with Preston and Jayden in an X post.
"I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys," Spears wrote. "Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life."
