NEED TO KNOW
- Baby Cesar was born weighing 11 lbs. 14 oz., surprising his parents, who expected him to weigh around 8 lbs.
- Midwives had to use a second scale to confirm his weight, making him the largest baby born at EMU
- Cesar is already wearing 3-month-old clothes and size two diapers, despite being just a newborn
When baby Cesar was born in January, he quickly broke records at a U.K. hospital.
According to SWNS, Fabio Ferreira, 37, and Rebecca Saxby, 34, welcomed son Cesar Junior Ferreira Simoes at Eastbourne Midwifery Unit (EMU) in Eastbourne, England, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. When he was born, the newborn weighed 11 lbs., 14 oz. — the biggest baby ever born at the U.K. hospital.
Baby Cesar, whose parents anticipated weighing only 8 lbs., was so big that the midwives who delivered him had to get another pair of scales to double-check the reading. Now that he's home, Cesar has been astounding everyone at each check-up he goes to.

"If you see the size of me, you'd probably expect it," Ferreira said. "I'm 6 ft. 2 [in.] and 16.5st. [approximately 231 lbs.]."
"With our midwifery unit in Eastbourne, they only deliver naturally born babies. They don't do c-sections," he continued. "Initially, we did think he'd be a bigger baby, but we didn't know how big."
The proud dad said that when Cesar is on a scale, he appears to be bigger. But when he's just in his clothes, he seems like a normal size.
"He's basically on 3 months clothes already and size two nappies," he explained. "When they put him on the scales, he had to get another pair as they thought it was broken when the reading came up."
"The midwives were talking to each other after he was born, and they said, 'You've just given birth to the biggest baby in Eastbourne history,'" added Ferreira.

Ferreira remembered being concerned during Saxby's pregnancy, since she looked much further along than she actually was.
"It could have not been such a happy story and after three months she looked like she was six months pregnant," said Ferreira. "But she's a superwoman. We want to thank EMU for all their help and continuous support throughout."
Meanwhile, Saxby said that she felt like the birth was "pretty traumatic" but has since been settling in with her family of four.
"It was pretty traumatic, but luckily he arrived all safe and fine," she said. "Throughout the pregnancy, I was bigger than normal."
"I thought he'd be 9 or 10 lbs., but I never thought he'd be 11 lbs. 14 oz.," continued Saxby. "We're all fine and settling in with life with two kids."
