Netflix's Heartbreak High is a reboot of an Australian teen series from the 1990s. The updated version focuses on a new class of Hartley High students as they navigate love, self-discovery and potential jail time after a carnival prank goes wrong.

The Heartbreak High revival debuted on Netflix in 2022, with the third and final season recently premiering on March 25. In season 3, there are several storylines wrapping up, including the "will-they-won't they" relationship between Amerie (Ayesha Madon) and Malakai (Thomas Weatherall).

"It felt like graduating high school, kind of like all acting jobs. But we know we'll keep in touch, and we feel like family now," James Majoos, who plays Darren, told Mamamia about the series concluding.

So, with season 3 now on Netflix, here's the ending of Heartbreak High, explained.

Do they graduate from Hartley High?

Yes, the group of friends graduate from Hartley High in the season 3 finale.

Stacy Woods (Rachel House), a.k.a. "Principal Woodsy," and teacher Jojo Obah (Chika Ikogwe) host an "unofficial graduation ceremony" for the students. During the special event, the teens add sentimental items to a time capsule.

"Here is my final truth: You are out in the world now. You are adults. This is it, ok? No more excuses," Principal Woodsy tells them. "You are responsible for yourselves, so let's see what you've got."

Who turned on the carnival ride?

In the season 3 premiere, the Hartley High year 12 students participate in "muck up day," a mischievous Australian school tradition.

Amerie and her friends spend the day at a carnival and hide out until it shuts down. After the carnival closes, the group tries to pull a prank on a ride, but when it suddenly turns on, the carnival manager ends up getting hurt and falling into a coma.

At the time, it's unclear who switched the ride on, but in the season 3 finale, it is revealed that Sasha (Gemma Chua-Tran) was responsible for it restarting.

Do Amerie and Malakai end up together?

Following graduation, Amerie joins Harper (Asher Yasbincek) on her road trip, but as the two are about to leave, Malakai stops them.

Amerie jumps out of the car, and she and Malakai kiss, professing their love for each other.

"I know we've been through s–t, but that only makes it more for me," Amerie tells Malakai, as he responds, "Me too."

Amerie still goes on her road trip, but Malakai promises to be waiting for her when she gets back.

Do Ca$h and Darren end up together?

Yes, Ca$h (Will McDonald) and Darren are together at the end of Heartbreak High.

They agree to a long-distance relationship, as Darren moves to New York City to pursue acting while Ca$h stays behind in Sydney to continue his budding career as a tattoo artist and take care of his Nan.

What happens to Sasha?

During a boat party in the season 3 finale, Sasha confesses she turned on the carnival ride, explaining she did it out of revenge for being left out of the friend group.

After the revelation, Sasha falls overboard, but her friends dive in and rescue her. She then turns herself in for the incident at the carnival.

Sasha's storyline ends with her serving community service, including collecting trash. That said, she starts thinking about her personal life again when she smiles at a girl who is doing community service with her.

What happens to Spider?

The finale montage shows Spencer "Spider" White (Bryn Chapman Parish) — Hartley High's class clown and a talented basketball player — coaching kids on the court.

Where do Harper and Amerie drive to?

Even though Amerie confesses her love for Malakai, she still hits the road with Harper.

The finale ends with the two encountering literal crossroads.

"Where we goin?" Harper asks Amerie.

"Straight ahead, baby," Amerie replies, and they ride off into the distance.
