- Kelly says motherhood has inspired her new music, which reflects the calm and peaceful vibe of the nursery
When Tori Kelly was getting ready to welcome her baby boy, she realized she was going to need some help when it came to her nursery.
"When I was thinking of the nursery, which I thought about kind of late to be honest, it was one of those things. I was on tour during the whole entire pregnancy. So there was a point I was like, 'Shoot, I need help with this,' " she tells PEOPLE.
Luckily, she was able to partner with Crate & Kids, who stepped in to help her design the space of her dreams for her now 4-month-old son, Zayden Michael.

"I knew from the beginning I wanted a neutral color palette for two reasons," says Kelly. "One, I think I'm just naturally drawn to more neutral tones, and I just think because it goes with everything and it's timeless."
"But also, we didn't actually know the gender of the baby," she continues. "So it just felt like the right move to go more neutral."
Kelly knew she wanted the space to feel "very light and airy," but didn't have any more specifics. That's where the Crate & Kids design team came in.

"It was cool to be able to give the design team just that much, and then they ran with it," she says.
Now that she's had a few months to settle into life with baby Zayden, Kelly has been able to add a few subtle touches to make the space feel more attuned to her little one.
"I love the little pops of blue," Kelly says, showing off a few blue baby blankets resting on Zayden's crib. "It's very, very subtle."

The space will also be able to grow with Zayden as he gets older. The Redondo Upholstered Wood Convertible Crib converts into a toddler bed, which will make evolving the space that much easier.
"That's the nice thing I think about this space is it leaves room for little changes and stuff while still keeping the integrity of the original space," explains Kelly.
"I do remember really gravitating towards the crib," she shares. "It actually looks really similar to my bed frame in my room. So I was like, that's kind of crazy that it matches perfectly."

Kelly's nursery and journey into motherhood have also been inspiring a new era for the singer. The new mom says she's been on "cloud nine" with her little one.
"It sounds like the thing I should say, to be like, 'It's so amazing. Everything's great,' " jokes Kelly. "But I'm being really honest when I say it really has been pretty awesome."
"I think about him all the time. He's inspired my new music. It's just so much fun," she continues. "There's just this whole new outlook on life, I think. And seeing the world through his eyes as he's discovering things has been really cool."

Kelly adds that she's found a "connection" between her son's nursery and her new music.
"I think even as I'm sitting in this space, it feels maybe weird to say, but I feel like [with] my new music, there's a connection with how this space makes me feel," she shares. "Just calm, peaceful, stepping into motherhood. I feel like my new album, which I'm putting all the finishing touches on right now, there's a connection there that I'm really excited about."
"This whole new chapter just feels really exciting and new and fun. I'm excited for people to hear the new stuff."
