Scout, an Instagram-famous dog, died on March 30 at 8 years old.
The pup — a regular feature of the Salt Lake City-based Instagram account Dog Friendly SLC, known for sharing dog-friendly events in the area — was remembered in a tribute shared by the account on March 30.
“It's with the heaviest of hearts that I share Scout crossed the rainbow bridge this morning,” read the tribute. “He was fine until he wasn't and we suspect cancer was ravaging his body unbeknownst to everyone. So much of my identity is wrapped up in him — I don't remember who I was before this goofy boy stole my heart and all my free time. It's been the greatest honor of my life to share him with you over the past 8 years.”
Following his death, Scout’s owner, Kristy Chenoweth, opened a GoFundMe to raise money for a public memorial to reflect “the joy he brought” to her community, per the fundraiser's description. As of April 2, it had raised over $6,700.
“Since the very first day Dog Friendly SLC launched, Scout was there, nose first, ready to explore every corner of this city we all love,” read the description. “Scout wasn't just a dog. He was a community. He was also, if we're being honest, a full blown celebrity and he knew it. He walked into every park, every trail, every gathering like he was fully aware that people had been waiting for him. And the thing is, they had.”
In the comments of the initial post, fans and community members posted tributes to Scott after learning of his death.
