A 7-month-old baby girl died after being struck by a stray bullet in Brooklyn, New York, on Wednesday, April 1. Now, her mother is speaking out.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch shared during a media briefing that the incident occurred as the baby was being pushed in a stroller along a busy sidewalk in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn by her mom in broad daylight.

Tisch said that police believe the shooting was gang-related, and the baby was not the intended target.

The baby's mother, Lianna Charles-Moore, spoke to CBS News New York, fighting through tears, saying, "I can't get her back. She's gone, and I can't ever see her again."

"I can't hold her anymore," Charles-Moore added of her late daughter Kaori Patterson-Moore. "She's gone."

Describing her late daughter as someone who was always laughing and smiling, and had just learned to say "mama," Charles-Moore told CBS News New York that her son keeps asking for his sister.

"I don't know what to tell him," she said. "I gotta bury her now, and I can't even hold my baby. I can't hold her anymore. She's gone. She's gone. She's gone."

The incident occurred after two men pulled up in a moped around 1:20 p.m. local time, and the one riding the rear opened fire, discharging at least two rounds towards the busy area, striking the baby.

After the moped continued northbound, the scooter crashed into an oncoming car two blocks from the scene, and the men were thrown from the scooter, Tisch said.

The rear passenger landed so hard on the pavement that he lost both of his shoes, which were later recovered by police. A 911 call came in requesting an ambulance for him, and he was identified by his clothing and appearance.

While he was transferred to a Brooklyn Hospital and was placed in custody on an unrelated investigation, the NYPD later announced that the suspect was identified as 21-year-old Amuri Greene, and he would be arrested and charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Tisch said that the other suspect fled on foot and had not been captured as of Wednesday evening, and is now the subject of a "massive NYPD manhunt." The individual was last seen heading towards Marcy Houses public housing project wearing light grey pants, a white T-shirt and a black surgical mask.

When reached by PEOPLE for comment, the NYPD said there are no other updates on the investigation at this time.
