Kai Trump is embracing the spotlight after her viral speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention, where she spoke lovingly of her grandfather, President Donald Trump, as he sought a second term in office.
Kai, 18, has since leaned into her newfound visibility, sources tell PEOPLE, as she grows her online presence as an influencer and YouTuber with over one million subscribers on the video platform alone.
“Kai is cute and knows she’s blessed,” a social source in Florida says. “Overnight she became a national figure after her heartwarming speech about her grandfather at the convention. She likes everything that goes along with being a celebrity.”
In her speech, which Kai delivered on July 17, 2024, after her grandfather secured the Republican presidential nomination, she described him as "a normal grandpa" and "an inspiration."
Her social media following shot up after her televised remarks, and she told Fox News in July 2025, "It’s been very fun growing it, especially after the RNC and how everything fell into place and I finally had more time to do content creation."
A source tells PEOPLE that Kai "took advantage" of her "social media star" status, but adds, “While she likes it, she likes playing golf more!”

The president's eldest grandchild is an avid golfer who committed to play for the University of Miami's collegiate team this fall. She often shares behind-the-scenes moments from her golf career on social media.
A political source tells PEOPLE Kai is comfortable in the public eye, especially since the increased attention came later in her teenage years.
“She is entitled yet was old enough when it touched her to handle things without all of the mistakes younger child public figures often make,” the source says, adding, “She has and can continue to charm herself into a comfortable life as a golfer and influencer because she is in the right place at the right time.”

While Kai is enjoying her time in the spotlight, one national political source says she should capitalize on the attention in the remaining years of her grandpa's presidency.
“When Donald is out of the picture I don’t see a lot of interest in any of these people so now is the time to make a mark,” a national political source tells PEOPLE.
Kai is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Trump, who shares Kai and four other children with his ex-wife, Vanessa Trump. The family moved from New York to Florida when Kai was 13 and have lived there ever since.

Although her family has influenced American politics for the last decade, Kai said earlier this year that she has no plans to follow in her grandfather's footsteps even as she becomes the face of her Trump generation.
While appearing on Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast on Jan. 6, 2025, Kai told the host, "I would never run" for office.
