Lindsay Lohan's former stepmother Kate Lohan was arrested in Texas on Tuesday, April 14, following an alleged altercation with Lindsay's father, Michael Lohan.

TMZ was first to report the news.

Kate, 43, was arrested after allegedly "striking the complainant's face" with her hand, according to the court documents obtained by PEOPLE. Kate was charged with assault, family violence as a second-time offender after she allegedly "unlawfully, intentionally, knowingly and recklessly cause bodily injury to Michael Lohan," per the documents.

She was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail in Houston on a $35,000 bond. "The defendant struck the complainant's face and threw a serrated knife in the complainant's direction, striking the complainant's shoulder," the motion for sufficient bail obtained by PEOPLE alleges.

Michael was granted an emergency order of protection from the court on Wednesday, April 15, according to the documents obtained by PEOPLE.

Kate's prior offense allegedly occurred on Aug. 22, 2024, as seen in the documents.

On April 15, Judge Andrew D. Martin ordered Kate to have no contact with Michael, 65, and to submit to alcohol testing. Kate was also prohibited from using any "controlled substances," including marijuana, according to the documents. Kate is also not permitted to own a firearm.

The former couple was engaged in 2010, when Kate was 27, and Michael was nearing 50, and later tied the knot in 2014. Kate filed for divorce from Michael in 2018, saying that the marriage was “irretrievably broken” two months following her arrest for simple battery after she was accused of throwing a glass candle at Michael, which shattered and cut his arm, The Blast reported at the time. Florida prosecutors did not file charges, citing insufficient evidence.

The pair share two sons—Landon, 13, and Logan, 11. At the time of Kate's arrest, her sons lived in her household, per the documents.

Michael was previously charged with domestic violence after he was accused of striking Kate in 2011. He was initially arrested on three felony charges, including false imprisonment, but the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office ultimately declined to pursue those charges, PEOPLE reported at the time.

In 2025, Michael was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence again. The Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) told PEOPLE via email that Kate was at a medical appointment on Feb. 21, 2025, when she observed Michael in the parking lot of the building. A call to 911 was placed as she “was concerned he was following her,” per the email.

Kate then told deputies that Michael had “flipped her out of a chair at their residence a few days earlier,” and HCSO confirmed that a female deputy observed bruising on Kate’s body.

Authorities said they made contact with Michael at his residence that day, and he was “arrested without incident," charged with Continuous Family Violence, and was held on a $30,000 bond, PEOPLE reported at the time. He was sentenced to nine months but was released early in October 2025.

Kate will be represented by a public defender in court. PEOPLE has reached out to her attorney for comment.
