Dr. Landau loves how thick the straps on these platform sandals are, as they’ll keep your feet safe and secure. They’re adjustable, too, which is helpful for swelling after a long day of walking. “They won’t constrict your feet,” she says, adding that when the toes are cramped into a shoe, it can cause issues like bunions down the line. While Dr. Landau usually cautions against shoes without a back, this pair is an exception because of the stable 1.5-inch block heel and proper arch support. “It’s the perfect heel height,” she says. “People often think they should avoid heels, but they can help with your foot health if they’re not too high.” The knit fabric allows the shoe to mold to your foot, so it doesn’t restrict your toes.
Foot-Friendly Tip:
When looking for shoes, opt for pairs where your heel sits slightly higher than your toes, Dr. Landau suggests. This helps prevent your subtalar joint, located below your ankle and above your heel, from rolling in too much when you walk, which, overall, helps with alignment and foot health.

These sturdy loafers made Dr. Landau’s list because of the platform, slightly elevated heel, and grippy bottoms. “If your shoe is too slick, you’ll slip or use your toes to grip, which can cause hammer toes,” she says. The front of the shoe is spacious enough to accommodate people with wide feet, or those with bunions or other foot issues, she adds.
Shoe Shopping Advice:
While low-profile sneakers are all the rage right now, Dr. Landau cautions against them for long walks. “It seems like every patient I see wearing them comes in complaining about heel pain,” she says. That’s because they lack the heel and arch support to keep your feet protected.
