San Diego Police Respond to Active Shooter at Islamic Center, Threat 'Neutralized'

Police have not yet said if anyone was injured or killed

Police in San Diego responded to a report of an active shooter at a mosque on Monday, May 18.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the shooter was reported at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Eckstrom Avenue around 12:00 p.m. local time.

In an update an hour later, police said on X that the threat had been "neutralized."

A reunification center has been set up at 4125 Hathaway Street, according to authorities.

Police did not say if anyone had been injured or killed.

"I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am continuing to receive updates from law enforcement," San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said in a post. "Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area."

According to the Associated Press, the Islamic Center is the largest mosque in San Diego and includes the Al Rashid School.
