Filming Blade Runner 2099 came with some risks for Hunter Schafer.
During a San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday, July 24, Michelle Yeoh said her costar experienced a concussion on the set of the Prime Video series.
After the Wicked actress, 63, told the crowd that she had never seen a more “fearless action hero” than Schafer, Yeoh explained that the Euphoria star “literally dove” into her role.
“I was almost trying to hold her back, like, ‘No, no, no! Too late, okay. Is Hunter okay?’ ” Yeoh said, sparking laughter from the audience. “She would do the tumbles, the falls, and I’m like, ‘Girl, Hunter, where are your pads?”

Schafer, 27, chimed in to say that her costar gifted her a baby helmet.
“Well, you got a concussion,” Yeoh revealed, as Schafer jokingly hushed her and started to laugh. “I mean, I had to protect my baby! I was like, ‘Here. Wear this baby helmet.’”
Schafer and Yeoh appeared in the panel alongside Blade Runner 2099 showrunner Silka Luisa and executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson to discuss the upcoming series.
The science fiction series premieres on Nov. 25. It is set in Los Angeles 2099 and follows Olwen (Yeoh), a veteran Blade Runner who is on the verge of death as she partners with a mysterious recruit, Cora (Schafer). The two set out to “investigate a widening conspiracy that stretches back to the city’s darkest original sins,” according to an official press release.
Blade Runner 2099 also stars Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben. Recurring guest stars include Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke and Maurizio Lombardi.

During the panel, Schafer shared that she was thrilled to be a part of the Blade Runner world and take on a new genre.
“When I was introduced to Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049, it broke my brain,” she said. “I haven’t seen anything like it before, so that was really attractive, obviously—being part of that.”
“I’d gotten to try action on some of my other sets and nothing compared to this,” she continued. “It’s my favorite. I love action.”
Schafer noted that working with Yeoh, “one of the literal best,” was “nothing short of an honor,” adding that she learned “a lot” from the Oscar-winning actress.
