  • Adrianne Palicki says she is torn about a Friday Night Lights reboot, calling the original show “perfect” and “timeless”
  • Palicki often hears from fans who were inspired by her character, Tyra Collette, even years after the show ended
  • Peacock announced a new adaptation of Friday Night Lights in 2024

Adrianne Palicki is on the fence about the Friday Night Lights reboot for a few reasons.

In an interview with TV Insider, the 43-year-old actress shared that she believes the original drama series, which ran from 2006 to 2011, was a “timeless” show.

“Aside from a cell phone here and there, everything is still happening today. It’s about a community. Every single person lives in the gray. It’s not black and white. It’s messy. It’s exactly what life is,” she shared.

Palicki, who played high school student Tyra Collette for three seasons of the show, said that she still has interactions with fans who recognize her from the show today.

“I was even at a bar in L.A. — I visited Barney’s Beanery — and one of the bartenders looked at me and said, ‘I went to college because of Tyra.’ Then she poured me a double, but that keeps happening,” Palicki shared. “It’s really exciting for me to know people are just now finding it again. That’s a rewarding feeling because that’s how timeless it is.”

Friday Night Lights ran for five seasons, and in December 2024, Peacock announced that development of an adaptation of the original series was underway.

When asked her thoughts on the reboot, Palicki admitted that she is “torn.”

“If anyone asked me to come back to play Tyra Collette again, absolutely! Especially if the same people were involved,” she said.

“However, I understand letting something breathe. It was a perfect show. I think it was a perfect, timeless show, and I love it so much. I loved the people involved. Bringing in a new world, I don’t know,” the Orville actress added.

Viewers were first introduced to the fictional Dillon High School Panthers football team in Peter Berg’s 2004 movie, inspired by the 1990 book of the same name, which starred Billy Bob Thornton, Connie Britton and Tim McGraw, to name a few.

Berg later expanded the story by developing the hit series, which saw Britton reprise her role while adding talent like Taylor Kitsch, Kyle Chandler, Zach Gilford, Aimee Teegarden, Jesse Plemons and more.

However, the upcoming iteration is slated to have an all-new cast.

Before news of the reboot, Britton, who played Tami Taylor on the show, admitted that revisiting the series with the original cast would be “sort of odd.”

“I don’t see them going back into that story, at least with this cast,” the Nashville actress told Entertainment Tonight in 2021. “We know we’ve already had a movie, we already had this TV show, and then if they were to do it again with like, a whole different iteration of it, I don’t know. I would think that would be sort of odd.”

Similarly, Kitsch told PEOPLE in January 2025 that he was only interested in returning if it was a small role.

“If you wanted to put me as a visiting coach with two lines, I probably would do that, just for fun,” he said. “I think that would be the most I would do, because I love the way we left it.”
