I love beautiful area rugs. They brighten up a space, make hard floors more cozy, and tie decor together. Unfortunately, I also love my extremely messy, energetic dog, and that’s led to more than one destroyed rug. But I’ve finally found a solution.
I tested a machine-washable rug from Ruggable that still looks brand new weeks after arriving. It never slips during play sessions, and adds a vibrant pop of color to my living room — a total win-win. Despite my pup’s best attempts, there have been no snags or stains. And now through August 10, you can use our exclusive code PEOPLE20 to save 20 percent sitewide.

With such a messy dog (and two cats, too), the rug’s machine-washable design was immediately my favorite detail. While I had already made sure the 5 x 7 size would fit in my machine, I was pleasantly surprised by how lightweight the rug is and how easily it scrunched up and slipped inside. While washing, my machine never got off balance and shaky, and when the cycle was finished, I tumble-dried it on a low setting. Afterward, it lay seamlessly flat and looked like a dog’s paws had never touched it — a true pet parent miracle.
Other praise-worthy standouts include its anti-slip backing, so when it’s playtime, my senior dog who has arthritis won’t slip and slide when her zoomies kick in. It’s also incredibly soft underfoot, and she loves lying on it — even without a rug pad. So far, I haven’t noticed any crushing or denting from heavy use, and the edges never flip up to create a tripping hazard.

Of course, an area rug needs to be functional, but for me, it also needs to be pretty. This one easily passes that test. The botanical-inspired print adds vintage character without being overwhelming, and the vibrant turquoise is bold without overwhelming my space. And, because the pattern is borderline monochromatic, the style is more understated than you’d think. It also comes in 12 other patterns and colors, including a soft ivory for neutral lovers and a bright citrus green for maximalists.
I’m not the only person who loves the rug, either. Other dog owners have similar thoughts. One person explained that it “hides the dirt and mess that comes with three kids and a dog,” and another praised the non-slip backing, saying it “doesn’t move even when dogs play on it.” The “soft and cushiony” rug is the “perfect blend of practicality and vintage vibes,” per other fans, and as for durability, one shopper who has had theirs for two years said it still “looks like the day we got it.” Not to mention, the brand is PEOPLE-approved.
If you’re looking for an area rug that can stand up to messy pets and kids, definitely check out this style from Ruggable. Keep scrolling to see similar tufted options, and don’t forget to use our code PEOPLE20 for 20 percent off sitewide.
