The picture book about a grandparent and grandchild hits shelves next Spring

Happy days are here again because Barbra Streisand is releasing a children’s book!
In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Penguin Young Readers announced And By the Way… will be published next March from Flamingo Books, an imprint of PYR.
Written by the EGOT winner and illustrated by Paige Keiser, the picture book follows “a sweet grandparent-grandchild pair on a dazzling day as they play, splash and contemplate life’s most important truths,” according to an official synopsis.

“I love being ‘Gamma Barbra’ to my three wonderful young grandchildren. One of our favorite activities is reading picture books together — sometimes the same ones over and over again! So, I thought it would be fun to write my own book… for them… and hopefully, for other parents and grandparents to read to their little ones!” Streisand, 84, said in a statement.
The Funny Girl actress said that she chose the book’s title “because it’s an expression I use quite often,” adding that, “It seems like there’s always one more thing to say!”
“The message is one of discovery, self-expression, self-reliance and of course, love,” she continued, shouting out Keiser for her help to “bring my words to life with her charming illustrations.”
“It’s been an honor and joy to work with the luminary Barbra Streisand,” added Flamingo Books Vice President and Publisher Margaret Anastas. “Her deep love for her grandchildren was her guiding light through the creative process, and the result is a book that shines.”

Streisand has been married to James Brolin, 86, since July 1, 1998, and became a grandparent to four through stepson Josh Brolin‘s two marriages.
Brolin shares Trevor, 38, and Eden, 31, with first wife Alice Adair. He and second wife Diane Lane, to whom he was married from 2004 to 2013, didn’t have children, though he was stepfather to her daughter from a previous marriage.
In 2016, he married his personal assistant Kathryn Boyd Brolin after three years of dating. The couple is parents to daughters Westlyn Reign Brolin, 7, and Chapel Grace Brolin, 5.

“And by the way… as I was writing this book, I was reminded of an inspiring quote I once read by the brilliant Dr. Seuss,” shared Streisand. “He said, ‘The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go!’ ”
And By the Way… hits shelves March 30, 2027, and is available for preorder now, wherever books are sold.
