The summer’s weather has been unpredictable, with the sun shining one second, only to give way to a torrential downpour moments later. Dressing for these shifts is tough, but I found a solution in my new favorite jacket from The North Face.

I don’t usually think of raincoats as fashionable, but this one is an exception. While it has a relaxed silhouette that allows you to wear it over sweaters, it doesn’t look bulky. A hidden drawstring allows you to adjust the fit, which I appreciate since I’m 5-foot-3 and jackets tend to be too long or baggy. The sleeves have elastic cuffs so I’m not spending time rolling them up when trying to escape a rain shower. I opted for the white color, but I’m already eyeing the pretty olive green and mint shades that are marked down.
I’ve tried many rain jackets in the past that promise to keep you dry, only to remove the soggy layer and realize my clothes are damp. This is not a concern with The North Face option, which is completely waterproof, with sturdy zippers and an extra shell to prevent any leaks. Even my hair stays protected thanks to the secure and customizable drawstring hood, which is a major win for me because I hate to ruin a blowout. My favorite thing about this coat, though, is just how easy it is to carry with you. It barely takes up space in my purse, which is ideal for the fluctuating weather, and I’m eager to bring it on vacation. Instead of buying an ugly poncho or overpriced umbrella in whatever city I travel to, I now have a reliable layer that easily fits into my suitcase. Since I have a zip-up and snow boots from the brand that I’ve worn for 10 years, I am confident this jacket will last, too.
