Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos’ on-screen marriage didn’t work out, but things may be playing out differently in real life.
The two actors starred as Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton on NBC’s long-running drama Chicago P.D., and their characters, who worked together, dated, got married and ultimately divorced. But off-screen, Soffer and Spiridakos have been rumored to be dating away from the cameras for years.
While the two haven’t publicly confirmed their relationship, fans have spotted them together over the years, including after their exits from the NBC series. Soffer left at the beginning of season 10 in 2022, and Spiridakos followed suit after season 11 concluded in 2024.
In August 2024, the pair appeared to be in Lisbon, Portugal, together. Afterward, they posted photos of the trip along with a few selfies. “Europe is kinda cool 😘😘,” Soffer, who was starring on FBI: International at the time, captioned his pictures.
Two years later, ahead of the premiere of Spiridakos’ new series, Anna Pigeon, Soffer shared the USA Network show’s poster on Instagram, and wrote, “Don’t miss Tracy in Anna Pigeon tonight 👀❤️.”

When Spiridakos joined the Chicago P.D. cast during the second half of season 4 in 2017, Soffer was already a mainstay, having been part of the show since the pilot.
Over the next several seasons, sparks began to fly between their characters. After their highly anticipated kiss in season 8, Spiridakos teased the changing dynamic on Instagram. “Jay may or may not tell Hailey he loves her and she may or may not completely freak out and run out of her own apartment,” she wrote alongside a photo of them sitting on a stoop in April 2021.
A few episodes later, Hailey proposed to Jay, and they went on to marry in the midseason finale later that year.
When Soffer exited the show at the start of season 10 in 2022, Jay and Hailey were on the rocks. With his character leaving the police department to work with the military in Bolivia, divorce papers soon followed.
While it didn’t work out on-screen, Soffer and Spiridakos’ romance has reportedly continued after the cameras stopped rolling.

After Soffer announced his departure from Chicago P.D., Spiridakos was among the first to express her gratitude toward him.
“I guess the word is out…Jesse, what can I say, you’re the absolute best,” she wrote on Instagram in August 2022. “Thank you for your kindness, your guidance and your friendship.”
Spiridakos continued, “You’re the greatest onscreen husband a girl could ask for. I’ll miss being on set with you every day. I can’t wait to see what the world has in store for you next.”
Though he left the drama as an actor, Soffer returned the following season to make his directorial debut in March 2023. He contributed a few episodes, including one for season 11, which Spiridakos helped promote.
“Tonight’s episode was directed by the one and only, our very own @jesseleesoffer 🥳🥳🥳!!” she captioned photos of Soffer in a director’s chair in May 2024. “And you guys, it’s a realllllllly good one. You don’t want to miss it.”
The following episode marked Spiridakos’ final appearance as a series regular on the NBC show, and Soffer took a moment to celebrate her work.
“I got to watch Tracy’s last episode of Chicago PD (airing tonight) and she’s FANTASTIC in it! 🙂 you should all go check it out!” he wrote.

Over the years, Soffer and Spiridakos have hit the red carpet with their fellow Chicago P.D. cast members to interact with fans and talk about the show.
The two attended the One Chicago Day event in October 2017, and they continued the tradition the next year, posing together. In May 2019, Soffer and Spiridakos mixed it up by attending NBCUniversal Upfront with LaRoyce Hawkins, who plays Kevin Atwater.
After the COVID-19 pandemic brought Hollywood to a standstill, there was a pause across movies and shows, including Chicago P.D. When the camera started rolling again in December 2020, Spiridakos shared a picture of her and Soffer getting back to work.
In August 2023, they joined other actors on the picket lines during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Soffer captioned his snaps, “Team, assemble!!” while Spiridakos simply wrote, “Union strong.”

As Chicago P.D. geared up for season 12 to premiere in September 2024, alums Soffer and Spiridakos enjoyed the last days of summer with a trip to Portugal.
That August, the actors uploaded similar photos of their time in Europe, starting with a selfie on the street. “Lisbon, you’re a beauty ❤️,” Spiridakos captioned her Instagram carousel.
The pair documented their travels, sharing photos of the scenery and excursions.
They adopted a puppy named Cali
In February 2026, Spiridakos revealed on Instagram that she and Soffer had adopted a puppy named Cali from an animal shelter in California.
“When my wonderful friend @kingaphilipps told us about her, Jesse and I knew right away we were adopting her,” she wrote, sharing photos of the pup napping on both her and Soffer.
Soffer announced the news in a post of his own, writing, “We got a puppy! Meet Cali 🙂 she had an injury when we got her, hence the cone, but it really isn’t holding her back much. She’s part lap dog, part piranha. Thank you to everyone at @ashtreeranchrescue and @kingaphilipps for all the help!”

Spiridakos and Soffer returned to Chicago for the massive annual three-hour crossover event featuring Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. in March 2026.
Over the course of the One Chicago event, Hailey and Jay came face-to-face for the first time since Soffer’s departure from the franchise in 2022. And, once they’d survived the episode’s mass-casualty event, they were forced to face their interpersonal one.
“Hailey, I’m sorry,” Jay said. When she asked what for, he responded, “All of it. I lost myself here on this team, this city, and I’m sorry I couldn’t find my way back. Sorry for all the wrong I did. All of it. I’m sorry that I lost you.”
She apologized too, and they agreed to grab a drink together.
“I think they had a couple drinks, and I think it opened the door … to further conversations,” Spiridakos told PEOPLE at the time. “But I don’t think it was a, ‘Okay. All is forgiven.’ For her, it would take a very long time to find that trust again and even be able to move forward. But I think it’s a door that opened other doors.”
“Maybe there’s still more story to be mined,” Soffer teased.
