11-Year-Old Girl Accused of Fatally Shooting Her 15-Year-Old Brother, Faces Murder Charge

An 11-year-old girl is accused of fatally shooting her teen brother.

The Edmond Police Department announced in a Facebook post on Thursday, Sept. 10 that it had made an arrest in connection with the death of the girl’s 15-year-old brother.

The arrest occurred earlier that morning.

The girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to a juvenile detention facility, where she was booked on a charge of second-degree murder.

“We recognize this is a heartbreaking situation for the family involved,” the police department said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with them as they grieve this tragedy.”

Officers were dispatched to the home in the 1100 block of Lapwing Road, in Edmond on the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 9, Edmond police spokesperson Emily Ward said, News 9 reported.

Officers found the teen dead inside, Ward said, according to News 9.

“We believe that she was the only other individual in the house at that time,” said Ward, KFOR reported.

The mother, who was not at home at the time, told police her daughter contacted her and said someone shot her son, according to a Broadcastify recording of Edmond Police and Fire, ABC7 reported.

Per Broadcastify, the 15-year-old victim was shot in the head, according to ABC7.

“It was shocking that it was them,” neighbor Richard New told KOCO. “The parents always seemed friendly, kids seemed friendly. Didn’t see the daughter much.”
