Arizona Cardinals backup cornerback was disciplined after writing a message on his eyeblack.
On Sunday, Sept. 13, Kei’Trel Clark wrote “Glory Be 2 God” on his eyeblack before he went out onto the field for the team’s Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
A few days after the Cardinals defeated the Chargers 26–14, the 25-year-old athlete expressed that he needs “answers” after learning that he was fined $6,651 for breaking one of the NFL’s equipment rules.
“You were in violation of the NFL Uniform and Equipment Rules,” the league wrote in a letter that Clark later shared on his Instagram Stories, per Outkick and Sports Illustrated. “Specifically, you displayed a personal message on your eyeblack.”

The letter continued: “Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8, Item () of the 2026 Official Playing Rules of the National Football League states that, ‘throughout the period on game day that a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including in pregame warm-ups, in the bench area, and during postgame interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office.’ ”
Despite the disciplinary fine, Clark emphasized that he’s “got to report to God at the end of my days on the day of judgement!”

“I’ll always give God the Glory and out loud,” he continued on his Instagram Stories, per Outkick. “All good.”
Clark’s latest violation comes nearly a year after he was fined $5,797 for wearing an unapproved black towel during one of his team’s games against the Indianapolis Colts.
At the time, he made his disapproval of the punishment clear: “$5700 over a towel that match the colors I’m wearing,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories. “We don’t wanna wear them QB towels fam.”
This time around, the NFL’s recent disciplinary actions elicited quite a few angry reactions from fans.
“I will be boycotting the NFL until their fine is lifted and an apology is issued to Christians everywhere,” one user shared on X.
Another user wrote in support of the athlete, “Kei’Trel Clark is a cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals. I might want to change my team to his.”
