Several people were injured and a hazmat team was deployed to a Texas highway after an 18-wheeler struck a barrier and overturned, sending more than 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilling onto the road.
According to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth and the Dallas Morning News, emergency services were first called to Dallas’ Interstate 20 — near the Dallas North Tollway at Loop 12, one of the city’s central roadways — for the multi-vehicle collision just after 11 a.m. local time on Friday, Sept. 25.
Police and fire officials said an 18-wheeler driving in the southbound lane reportedly struck several cars before crashing into a wall.

Dallas Fire-Rescue confirmed to the Morning News that 911 callers who reported the incident told dispatchers that six vehicles were involved, including the 18-wheeler, which rolled onto its side after the collision.
Photos from NBC 5’s news helicopter showed the 18-wheeler toppled onto its side as fire trucks, police cars and other vehicles surrounded the scene.
Three people were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries following the collision, including a man and woman in their 30s and a woman in her 20s, fire officials said. All three were reported to be in stable condition as of Friday.

Fire officials also shared that a hazmat (hazardous materials) crew was dispatched to the scene. After the 18-wheeler overturned, its saddle tanks ruptured and spilled about 170 gallons of diesel fuel onto the road.
There were also several totes in the back of the semi-truck that contained miscellaneous fluids, including used cooking oil, that hazmat technicians were working to contain, the Morning News reported.
The highway’s northbound lanes were later closed, shutting down travel in both directions, per the outlets. A spokesman for the North Texas Tollway Authority said both directions later reopened.
