Since One Direction’s 2016 split, members Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have each embarked on their own solo careers.
Malik was the first to do so after abruptly leaving the boy band in March 2015. He subsequently signed a solo contract with RCA Records, and released his debut album, Mind of Mine, the following year.
Styles followed suit in June 2016, re-signing with Columbia Records and dropping his self-titled debut in May 2017. Horan, meanwhile, inked a deal with Capitol Records in September 2016, and released his first album, Flicker, in October 2017.
Payne and Tomlinson, meanwhile, put out a series of singles before releasing their debut albums LP1 and Walls in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
Despite parting ways, the former boy banders remained in touch over the years and even reunited at Payne’s funeral in November 2024 funeral. (Paye died at age 31 one month prior after falling from a third story hotel balcony in Argentina.)
“We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing,” the remaining members wrote in a joint statement in October 2024. “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.”
