Kristin Davis Reveals She Was Initially Offered Just $5,000 for ‘Sex and the City’ Pilot

Kristin Davis has revealed how much money she was going to be paid for season 1 of Sex and the City.

Davis, 59, first portrayed Charlotte York on HBO’s original series Sex and the City, from its debut in 1998 until its final episode in 2004. She has since gone onto reprise the role in several sequels, including two films and Max’s revival series And Just Like That. However, the actress revealed during the first episode of her “Are You a Charlotte?” podcast that she was offered a measly $5,000 for her debut performance on the series.

“I was never a fan of the pilot,” Davis said during the Monday, January 13, episode, adding that she always wanted to do the show but thought the pilot episode “didn’t seem polished.”

“It didn’t seem smooth. It seemed kind of choppy and hectic,” she said. “But I also feel my personal theory on pilots in general is that if they’re too good — if the pilot is too formed — the show might not be good.”

Not focusing on the drama. Kristin Davis addressed Kim Cattrall‘s upcoming cameo on And Just Like That — which reportedly wasn’t filmed alongside any of her former Sex and the City costars. “You have to respect people’s wishes. I’m not gonna waste energy on it. I can’t change anybody,” Davis, 58, told The Telegraph on […]

Davis further revealed that while she was filming the pilot, a producer came to her trailer and handed her a new contract to sign.

“One day, I’m in my trailer and she knocks on my door and I opened it and she says, ‘Oh, well, we have this paperwork we need you to fill out.’”

She continued, “And I was like, ‘OK.’ I take the paperwork and I look at it and it seems to be a new contract, but it’s only two pages long, and I’m like, ‘What is this?’ And it says, ‘You will be a recurring character and you will be paid $5,000.”

Davis promptly called her lawyer, who advised her not to sign the new contract. “I know that the pilot’s costing a lot and that they’re stressed at HBO about it,” she recalled, adding, “I think the pilot cost like $2.5 million roughly, which at the time was a lot because no one really filmed in Manhattan.”

Kristin Davis’ role as Charlotte York on Sex and the City cemented her as a Hollywood star — but it wasn’t always easy for her to connect with the character. “We have very different lifestyles. I’m not married. I have never been married,” Davis, 58, said during the Monday, July 10, episode of the “Best […]

The actress noted that series creator Darren Star hadn’t said anything to her about a new contract at the time, so she chose not to worry

“So I thought, ‘Well, if Darren’s not saying anything to me about it, then everything must be okay,’” Davis continued. “I don’t know. I was scared. But it was also very clear from the book and from the script and from the pilot that Charlotte’s point of view was a different point of view than the other girls.”

Davis is set to reprise her role as Charlotte York in season 3 of And Just Like That, which does not yet have a release date.
