San Francisco 49ers star Fred Warner will be watching the Super Bowl from his couch just like the rest of us — but he’ll be doing it with a bit more disdain in his heart.
Unlike some of his NFL compatriots whose seasons are already over, Warner, 28, will be tuned in when the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles do battle in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, February 9.
“I know there’s guys out there who talk about like, ‘I’m not watching the game, I’m too bitter I’m not playing in it or I hate both teams,’ which are both true,” said Warner, who spoke exclusively to Us Weekly via his partnership with Wholly Guacamole. “Don’t get me wrong. I have those feelings.”
Warner continued, “I’m just such a true football fan. It doesn’t matter how long I’ve been playing this game with the greats and having cemented myself up there, as well. I’m still a fan of the game, you know? And there is truly nothing like Super Bowl Sunday.”

A Pro Bowl selection for the 4th time this year, Warner is coming off his 7th season with the 49ers. While the 2024 campaign was an undeniably disappointing one for San Francisco after the team took the Chiefs to overtime of Super Bowl LVIII, the early offseason did give Warner the chance to spend even more time with his son, Beau, who he and his wife, Sydney Warner, welcomed in March 2024.
“It’s been so rewarding to have our baby boy in our life,” Warner told Us. “He truly is the light of our life, even though he does make it difficult sometimes. I’m going to tell you that right now. 10 months old right now, he’s climbing on things. He’s teething, so the sleep is little off. But he’s so fun.”
He added, “When they’re little, they don’t really show you any emotion besides crying. When I got that first smile out of him, that first laugh. Now he has a full-blown personality. Not because he’s upset or anything, it’s out of excitement. I’m like, ‘Hey, I scream just like that on the field.’”
Warner said the most “surprising” part of fatherhood has been watching his son’s culinary palette expand before his eyes.
“You spend that whole first part of their life, they’re drinking milk and that’s it,” Warner explained. “They go to sleep, they wake up, they drink milk, they go back to sleep. So now he’s starting to get teeth, he’s starting to try new foods.”
Warner said his son is a big guacamole fan, which makes his partnership with Wholly fit like a glove — especially as he puts together his Super Bowl spread.
“I’m thinking wings,” Warner said of his game day food. “We’ve got the guacamole, we’ve got the wings, we’ve got the chips. I like to keep it pretty balanced. Maybe have a couple vegetables in there – some carrots, celery, broccoli.”
He continued, “People don’t usually go for those items first. You know, the pizza and wings will probably be gone first. But you dip those veggies in that guacamole and you’ve got a nice, delicious snack.”
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles meet in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, February 9, from the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
