Kristin Davis couldn’t help but giggle while reflecting on filming one of her NSFW scenes on And Just Like That.
Michael Patrick King, director and showrunner of AJLT, discussed the “journey” Davis, 59, has taken as the conservative Charlotte York on the Monday, February 3, episode of Davis’ “Are You a Charlotte?” podcast. In particular, he brought up a scene from the Sex and the City spinoff’s first season, in which Charlotte attempted to perform oral sex on her husband, Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler), only to pass the moment off as her checking him for cancer once their daughter accidentally walks in on them.
“We had a prosthetic penis made,” King, 70, revealed, after which Davis quipped, “Just say how beautiful it was, though. OK, it was very beautiful.”
King said he wanted “to do justice to the story that Harry and Charlotte have a great sex life” via the scene, adding, “There was this beautiful penis – and we’ve never seen Charlotte actually touch it. We’ve hinted through the many years of this that she’s kind of great and wild in bed.”

He continued: “But you’re kneeling on the floor, take after take after take, with this fake penis, totally embracing [it]. And then Cathy Ang, who plays [their daughter] Lily, is opening the door at the wrong time. And you’re like, ‘No, no, baby, it has to be after I hold the penis. Just wait a couple of seconds till the penis is in my hand.’”
Davis’ performance in the scene had both her and King cracking up. “I literally went into you afterwards and said, ‘You’re my favorite ever,’” King told the actress. “The attitude around kneeling on a floor in front of your family, the crew, gently telling Cathy, a younger actor, that she can’t open the door till you have the fake penis in your hand, with the best attitude — and I think you said, ‘Most fun day ever’ at the end.”
Davis, for her part, said it was “really fun” shooting the scene — fake prosthetic penis and all.
Davis portrayed Charlotte through all six seasons of HBO’s hit show Sex And the City, as well as the show’s 2008 and 2010 follow-up movies. She returned to the beloved role for Max’s sequel series AJLT, which premiered in 2021. The show’s third season is expected to premiere later this year.
As fans await AJLT’s return, Davis is getting candid about her experiences working on both shows on her “Are You a Charlotte?” podcast, which debuted last month. During her first episode, Davis revealed she was only paid $5,000 for appearing in the SATC pilot.
“I take the paperwork and I look at it and it seems to be a new contract, but it’s only two pages long, and I’m like, ‘What is this?’ And it says, ‘You will be a recurring character and you will be paid $5,000,’” she recalled, adding that her lawyer advised her not to sign the contract.
However, she changed her mind after noting that show creator Darren Star had not mentioned a new contract to her at the time. “So I thought, ‘Well, if Darren’s not saying anything to me about it, then everything must be okay,’” she added. “I don’t know. I was scared. But it was also very clear from the book and from the script and from the pilot that Charlotte’s point of view was a different point of view than the other girls.”
