While Princess Kate Middleton has made several public appearances since announcing her cancer is in remission, there’s one major event she and Prince William will be skipping.
Kensington Palace confirmed to multiple outlets on Monday, February 10, that the Prince and Princess of Wales will not be attending the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday, February 16. William, however, is set to visit the London Screen Academy on Wednesday, February 12, and will appear during Sunday’s awards ceremony via a video package. (William, 42, has served as president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010.)
This marks the second year in a row Kate, 43, has not attended the BAFTAs. She skipped the 2024 BAFTAs in February 2024 to recover from a planned abdominal procedure. William, for his part, walked the event red carpet solo and apologized for his wife’s absence. “I’m sorry Catherine’s not here. She does love the BAFTAs,” he told Elaine Bedell, chief executive of the Southbank Center, at the time.
The following month, Kate announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer after her January surgery and would be undergoing “preventative chemotherapy.” She and William also skipped last year’s BAFTA Television Awards that May, though a prerecorded video message from William was shown during the ceremony.

The last time the couple, who wed in 2011, attended the BAFTAs together was in February 2023 after a two-year absence from the awards show. She completed the look with gold statement earrings, black opera gloves and a small black clutch.
Kate made her first public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis at the annual Trooping the Colour event in June 2024. Nearly three months later, Kate announced she had completed her chemotherapy by sharing a brand-new video of herself and William with their three kids: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
“Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she said in the social media video. “I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”
Kate shared that she was officially in remission while sharing a photo from her visit to The Royal Marsden Hospital, where she underwent her cancer treatment, via Instagram last month. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she captioned the January 14 post. “I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.
