Meghan Markle Hypes Up Freckles to Little Boy at Invictus Games: ‘A Night Without Stars’

Meghan Markle just hyped up freckles in the cutest way possible..

The Duchess of Essex, 43, gave a little boy the best advice when it comes to growing up with freckles at the 2025 Invictus Games in Whistler, British Columbia, on Monday, February 10. During the game, which she attended with Prince Harry, Markle was seen chatting with a child, telling him: “A face without freckles is a night without stars.”

Markle has used the phrase before. In 2021, Congress Carla Hayden revealed that the actress submitted a book title to the US Copyright Office in 1996 called, A Face Without Freckles… Is a Night Without Stars.

Markle, who wrote the book as an 8th grader, included a blurb about the story: “Some people think freckles are strange, while I happen to disagree,” she wrote. “Because if I did not have freckles, then I would not truly be me!”

In the years since, Markle has been forthcoming about her desire to always show her freckles. As she told Allure in 2017: “My pet peeve is when my skin tone is changed and my freckles are airbrushed out of a photo shoot.”

At the Invictus Games, Markle let her freckles shine through her minimal makeup, which included blushed cheeks and a touch of pink on the tip of her nose, mascara and glossy lips. The Suits alum teamed her cold-girl glam with a black knit hat overtop her brunette hair. She tied her look together with a white Mackage coat that cascaded to the floor and dark jeans.

The Duchess of Sussex is never one to cover up her specks on the red carpet, either. In October 2024, she accentuated her natural features with soft makeup at the Children’s Hospital Gala in Los Angeles. She beamed for the camera, showing off her natural complexion with a dash of blush on her cheeks, filled-in eyebrows, long lashes and a juicy pout.

Markle coupled her less-is-more makeup with a Carolina Herrera dress, which came equipped with a plunging neckline, fitted silhouette and knee-high slit.
