Jaime King’s 2 Kids: All About Her Sons James and Leo

Jaime King is a mother to two children, whom she welcomed with her ex-husband Kyle Newman.

The White Chicks star’s first son, James Knight, was born in October 2013, while her younger son, Leo Thames, was born in July 2015.

Following King and Newman’s split in May 2020 after 13 years of marriage, the two entered a contentious custody battle, in which King accused Newman of verbal and emotional abuse while Newman claimed King was a drug and alcohol addict who endangered their children, per court filings.

The back-and-forth came to an end in March 2025, when Newman was awarded sole physical custody of their two sons.

While they will continue to primarily live with their father, a court ruled that King will be able to visit her children up to three times a week, but only with an approved supervisor because she has not completed a 6-month drug/alcohol program and other court-ordered measures.

James Knight, 11

King and Newman welcomed their first child, James, on Oct. 6, 2013, weighing in at 7 lbs., 2 oz.

“Mom and baby are happy, healthy and are doing great,” King’s rep told PEOPLE at the time.

When he was 4, James joined his mom on the red carpet for the Incredibles 2 premiere in 2018, donning a hot-pink dress with bows and flowers. The Hart of Dixie star previously spoke to PEOPLE about her gender-neutral kids clothing collection, noting that limiting kids’ apparel to gender norms was “restrictive.”

“Somehow, the world decided that boys belong in blue and girls belong in pink and anything other than that is weird or strange and in some ways frowned upon — as if allowing a boy to wear purple or hot pink is steering them in the wrong direction,” she said.

In 2020, James and Leo moved to Pennsylvania with their father amid their parents’ split. Now, James occasionally accompanies his mom on set but mainly continues to live his life out of the public eye.

“Happy 11th Birthday to my beloved first born. James Knight, you have blessed us all through your loving and kindness🌹💕🦋,” King wrote of her elder child in a birthday tribute in October 2024.

Leo Thames, 9

King’s younger son, Leo, was born on July 16, 2015. While she was pregnant with Leo, King found out at her 20 week appointment that he was diagnosed with transposition of the great arteries — a heart defect in which two of the main arteries leaving the heart are reversed, per the Mayo Clinic.

As soon as he was born, Leo needed to have open-heart surgery, which was “traumatic” for the mom, she told PEOPLE shortly after.

“I was wheel-chaired to him every three hours, so I could breastfeed him and take care of him before he went into this huge surgery,” King said, adding that Leo had to be a “certain weight” in order to make it through the procedure.

She continued, “It was a terrifying experience. But thank God for the medicine that we have now.”

Though Leo’s parents split shortly before his 5th birthday, they seemingly came together to celebrate in July 2020, as King tagged Newman in an Instagram shot of her blowing out candles alongside James and Leo on the latter’s cake.

“We are so blessed to have you here on this planet our beautiful, tender, fearless boy,” King wrote in the caption. “I love you more than anything that has ever existed.”

More recently, King has posted snaps of her two children on her Instagram, including James’ and Leo’s Halloween costumes in 2024, in which Leo dressed up as an old man.
